A man was ejected from his SUV after he crashed head-on into a SEPTA trolley in the city's Parkside section early Friday morning.
One person was killed when an SUV crashed into a septa trolley in Philadelphia's Parkside neighborhood.
The trolley was carrying passengers when the crash happened just before 1.30 this morning.
Action News reporter Corey Davis is live at the scene on the 5100 block of Lancaster Avenue with more on this story.
Corey.
Eliana, good morning.
Investigators telling us a man crashed head-on into this trolley right here, the septa trolley,
and he was ejected from his SUV during that crash right here at 51st and Lancaster Avenue.
I want to get you right to some video there of the scene before that SUV was towed away.
The front portion of the driver's side of the vehicle peeled away during the impact, exposing the entire front seat area of the GMC.
Police say the 911 call came in at around 1.30 this morning about the crash here at 51st and Lancaster Avenue in the city's Parkside section.
Police and medics saw the 32-year-old driver unresponsive on the ground next to his vehicle when they arrived.
The impact caused the GMC SUV to spin 180 degrees and come to rest against the sidewalk,
and that's where the 32-year-old driver was ejected and was found on the sidewalk next to that vehicle,
and that's where he was pronounced dead.
He had severe head trauma.
We were here when the tow truck driver loaded the vehicle onto the flatbed.
As for the people on the trolley, police say the septa driver did not appear to have any injuries despite sitting so close to the front,
but, of course, was very shaken up.
Medics took two of the four people on board to the hospital with complaints of pain to their heads, backs, and necks.
Back live here, the trolley is now back on the move.
They are towing it away using another trolley behind it to push it down Lancaster Avenue right now.
That trolley, once again, damaged during all of this.
SEPTA officials will be taking a look at the tracks here along Route 10 of the T1 trolley line to inspect exactly how much damage was done.
We do know that cameras were recently activated this week on the trolleys to monitor people who are blocking the tracks and to issue out tickets,
so investigators will likely be taking a look at that footage to determine exactly what possibly led up to that SUV crashing head-on into the trolley.
So we will stay on top of this as investigators continue to look into this.
They have not yet released the name of that 32-year-old man who they say died here at the scene.
Reporting live here in Parkside, Corey Davis, Channel 6 Action News.
The wreckage of that SUV is just awful.
Thank you, Corey.
