My first guest is an actress you know from Alias, 13 going on 30, and Love, Simon.
She's back for the second season of The Last Thing He Told Me.
Bailey. Bailey. I'm sorry, I have to go.
The car's parked in back. Let's go. Okay. Mom, just start the car. I'll be right there.
We've got a report of a gas leak. Someone named Hannah?
Please welcome back to The Late Show, Jennifer Garner.
How's it going, Jen? Everything's great. How are you doing? I'm doing great.
You're a little revved up tonight. I'm very happy to be here.
We're all revved up because Jennifer Garner's here. You rang in the new year in a revved up way.
Tell me what's going on. What's going on? Oh my goodness. This is Yellowknife, Canada,
Northwest Territories. My mom wanted to see the Northern Lights. She's about to be 88.
She's an adventurer. Oh, that's lovely.
She grew up on this farm in Oklahoma. They didn't have a whole lot, but they had chickens.
They collected the eggs. They sold them on the corner. The neighbor who would come by to buy
them would drop off Life magazines. It gave my mom this whole ... She's been to 50 states.
A few years ago, she said, Jennifer, I need to see Antarctica so I can say I've been to
seven continents. She's been to seven continents in 50 states.
That's an adventure. Yeah. This year, it was, I need to see the
Northern Lights. I said, Mom, I have three nights. We have to go straight north. We don't have time
for anything. I said, that might not happen. She said, well, I guess we better try. Luckily.
What was your impression? I was lucky enough to see them a few years back in Iceland.
It's just extraordinary. It was magical. It really is. Matt,
the world is so beautiful. Yes.
It's like painting with watercolors. It was moving. It was gorgeous.
Okay. You look frosty there. Winter Olympics are going on right now. That's a segue we call
in the business. Okay. Thanks. Good job.
You've got an idea for a new Winter Olympics sport. I understand we have a clip of you doing
the sport here. Oh my gosh. Here we go.
Tell me what's going on there. Well, there was a snow day in New York.
Wasn't it just the best for you guys here? I love it. It reminded me of when I first lived
in New York. You guys may know this or you may not know this, but I babysat for Stephen and Evy's
eldest daughter. Yeah. I did. Yes. Okay. Can I just tell them while I'm here?
Sure. We met.
We were both guest stars on Spin City in the same episode. We were the scrubby guest stars.
Yes. Yes.
Well, you had a two-episode guest star. No, no. I was only one.
Only one? I've been jealous all this time. No.
I thought you had a two-episode arc. I'm like, well, she's got it made.
No. I would have loved that. Oh, no. I only had one.
Yeah. I had one. Yeah. And we didn't have that much to do. So we hung out together
and he was like, what are you doing here from West Virginia? And I was like,
what are you doing here from South Carolina? So anyway,
they were kind enough to ask my roommate and me to babysit for their gorgeous little one.
Because you said you needed a job babysitting. I did.
I said, well, I have a baby.
Yeah. It worked out.
Yeah, it did. Yeah. Yeah. So we go back. Anyway, I was here. It reminded me of that huge blizzard
in 96. Oh, God. We're old. That baby you were feeding is 30 now.
Yes. What?
She's 30. Yeah. That is so rude.
She's flirty and thriving. For me to mention it was 30 years ago or
for her to have grown up. No, for her to be 30.
I know. I'll tell her you said so. Is she flirty and thriving?
She is. Okay.
In your album. But anyway. Okay. So I was in Central Park. This is back. This is taking us back.
In the day of. In the day of the snow. And Sean White was there doing flips off of a hill. And
everyone was talking. It was like that really fun New York snow day feel. And these cute girls were
going down the hill on their cookie sheet. And so they let me have a turn.
Wow. You could make that into an Olympic event, like a sort of a biathlete event where they,
you go down on the cookie sheet. Yeah.
And you have to bake cookies. Like Great British Bake Off or something like that.
Yes. Get the judges.
Yeah. We have to take a quick break.
We're right back with more Jennifer Garner, everybody. Stick around.
