Melting Concrete: Extreme Weathering on N Scale Retaining Walls
These retaining walls have been sitting unfinished for months.
This video is about finally moving them forward.
In this build, I take a set of modular N scale retaining walls and push them past their clean, architectural beginnings into something older, heavier, and more lived-in. Using controlled solvent damage, layered paint, and weathering techniques, the concrete is distressed, eroded, and brought into the same dystopian world as the rest of the layout.
The walls are designed as removable sections so they can be worked on at the bench before being installed back into the scene. Along the way, I experiment with surface texture, exposed rebar, washes, and subtle tonal variation to break up the mass and give the concrete a sense of age and neglect.
