Day 518 - Minor Changes, HUGE Improvements

Do. Learn. Level Up. The sawmill took over the lean-to space a couple of months ago. That was the "do" phase. Get it set up and simply do work. Reflecting upon the work is when learning kicks in. What is good and what needs to change about this workflow? Experience is the greatest teacher. This video covers a small but mighty leveling up.

I thought three stacking stations for three different material lengths was optimal. It sounds good on paper, but in reality, you're only working with one material length at a time. There is no need to dedicate space to multiple stacking stations.

Also, it is convenient to pull the material backwards after the cut (hydraulic mills do this easily...hmmmmm..). Therefore, the work zone is never on the tongue side of the mill, and no stacking stations should be on that side.

And finally, I find it to be more valuable to have multiple intermediate stacking and sorting stations than final sticker stacking locations. Sawhorses are the quickest, easiest, and most universally useful solution. Another set of sawhorses it is!
