Nurses held an informational picket outside of Cooley Dickinson Hospital
earlier this evening, calling on Mass General Brigham to invest in safer
staffing, fair wages and full benefits. According to the Massachusetts Nurses
Association, contract negotiations with the parent company have lasted for six
months now since the contract expired earlier this year. They tell 22 news
that nurses have not received a wage proposal despite the health care system
reporting more than $20 billion in revenue last year. Nurses are also
sounding the alarm on M. G. B. S. Plan to reclassify some staff as part time,
which would remove their full time health benefits. Cooley Dickinson as a
facility is in a recruitment and retention crisis right now. Bad things
can happen when nursing staff is overburdened, understaffed, and I think
it also erodes our profession. Contract negotiations will continue
tomorrow. 22 News has reached out to Mass General Brigham to respond. We
have not heard back as of news time.
