This is 22 News at 4 p.m. Digital Edition.
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to 22 News at 4.
I'm Claire Overton.
We'll get to your top four at 4 in just a moment.
But first, we always have a look at commuter traffic and weather.
Let's bring in 22 News Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis.
Brian, it was a beautiful fall day outside.
Yeah, we got up into the low 60s,
which actually is a degree or two warmer than we were expecting.
And the sun continues to shine.
Let's take a look at traffic, shall we?
And you can see here that traffic is doing fine.
There are really no problems anywhere.
91, the pike downtown, it's in good shape.
So let's get right to temperatures.
And you can see here 62 in Greenfield, 61 in Springfield,
even low 60s, mid 60s right now in the Berkshires.
We do have a few clouds to show you.
You can see that we've got this storm off the coast that's backing up,
moving from east to west.
And that's throwing some clouds in our direction.
We do not expect this rain to get anywhere near us.
It'll be dry, but there will be some clouds here through
the afternoon hours and overnight tonight.
We'll be back into the sunshine, though, fairly quickly tomorrow.
We'll track it with our 22 News Storm Team forecast.
Now we have the latest in the Matthew Farwell trial.
A former dispatcher testified that he received a call from one
of Birchmore's friends less than two weeks before her death,
raising concerns about Farwell's alleged relationship with her.
The dispatcher says he reported the information up the chain of
command, but the matter wasn't pursued and his notes later disappeared.
The former Stoughton police officer is accused of killing
23-year-old Sandra Birchmore and staging her death as a suicide.
Prosecutors argue Farwell feared the relationship would become public.
He has pleaded not guilty.
And we're learning more about the arrest of Sean Oliver,
the GOP candidate for Massachusetts lieutenant governor.
Oliver appeared in court on Monday
in New Bedford with a visible wound on his head,
which according to court documents
is a result of Saturday night's crash.
Police officers say when they arrived on scene,
they saw Oliver's black Lincoln Navigator
flipped over on its roof after crashing into multiple parked cars.
He was the only person in the car and the only person injured.
Officers allege Oliver admitted to having
at least two drinks earlier that night
and that he allegedly smelled like alcohol.
Oliver has been released on personal recognizance
and previously announced the suspension of his campaign.
He is facing OUI charges and has pleaded not guilty.
Across state lines in Connecticut, another lawsuit is expected
to be filed against the corporate owner of Bright Path Daycare in Avon.
It comes after allegations
that a now former employee sexually abused children.
29-year-old Giancarlos Barrios Otero
was arrested in April on several charges.
Lawyers say the new lawsuit will be very different
from the seven they have already filed.
They say this one will have to do with the cameras
at the daycare not being monitored.
And it's Teen Driver Safety Week, and AAA is urging parents
to teach young drivers how to stay vigilant on the roads.
AAA says alcohol impairment, speeding, and driving without a seatbelt
are the leading causes of fatal crashes among young drivers.
Data also shows Massachusetts drivers ages 16 to 20 were involved
in more than 110,000 crashes between 2020 and 2025.
AAA says parents can set an example on how to navigate the road and
make a family agreement that holds both parents and teens accountable.
And now let's get another check at today's weather.
Brian Lapis joins us back again.
I don't need to say government name anymore, but Brian joins us back.
Brian, we have some clouds coming in from a storm that's off the coast.
Yeah, and these are benign clouds, nothing really to worry about.
Actually, it should make the sunset kind of pretty this afternoon.
Okay, that's a positive.
Sunsets are more or less in the afternoon now, aren't they?
Crazy.
Intriguing. Let's take a look, shall we?
All right, you can see the thin clouds over the valley right now.
The farther west you are, the warmer you are and the brighter you are.
And the clouds will continue to be with us
as we move into the evening hours.
You can see here, I'm going to call it variable clouds tonight
because at some points will be a little clearer.
than others. So you get the idea.
The clouds will be around. That's actually
going to slow down the cooling
a little bit tonight. Tomorrow morning's low
temperatures between 36 and 42.
And you can see here we get some clouds in the
morning, but by noontime most of these clouds are moving out and in the
afternoon we're mostly sunny.
So morning clouds gives way to sunshine in the
afternoon and a high temperature tomorrow
in the low to mid sixties. And
right now we're still on course for a dry weekend.
