Springfield Technical Community College staff held a rally today
with the Massachusetts Community College Council Labor Union.
And 22 News reporter Gabriela Villas-Boas joins us live
in studio with their concerns.
Members of the Massachusetts Community College Council gathered today
at Springfield Technical Community College
to fight for base salary increases.
The organization is fighting
for a 30% raise over the span of three years,
5% in January and 5% in July,
repeated over the three-year campaign period.
A lot of us that work on campus work more than one job,
so just being a full-time professor here doesn't cut it.
So we have increased the capacity in the work we're doing,
the students that we're accepting,
but our wages haven't increased.
Today, the event saw major success,
including an appearance from STIC's president,
Organizers tell us the support from the administration feels good.
Their next plan of action is a trip to the statehouse on November 20th.
MCCC hopes to be joined by staff, students,
and family to take concern straight to Governor Healy.
We've reached out to STIC for a response, but still haven't heard back.
Working for you, I'm Gabriella Villas-Boas, 22 News.
