Lentvaris Manor

Juozapas Tiškevičius acquired the Lentvaris manor in the middle of the 19th century, starting its most impressive stage of development. Not even a decade has passed when the manor estate typical of the neo-Gothic of the Romanticism era was built, surrounded by a park designed by Édouard André, and the economic potential was supplemented by the newly built wire and nail factory.

Old Trakai Church Of The Lord’s Revelation To The Blessed Virgin Mary And St. Benedict (Church And A Former Monastery)

It is thought, that before this title was assigned to Vilnius, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was transferred from Kernavė to the Old Trakai, which were established in 1316. Once the Old Trakai lost its relevance, Vytautas transferred his home castle to the Benedictines in 1405 and built a church there, and in the second half of the 16th a new monastery and a church were built, which were lost during the fire of 1757.

Parish Church Of The Visitation Of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Trakai

Though today we see the dominant Baroque forms in the Trakai Basilica, however, its appearance is a creation of the two eras. The sanctum mentioned in the written sources for the first time as early as 1409 was reconstructed at least several times – the greatest reconstruction took place after the roaring war with Sweden, which took place on the first half of the 18th century.

Rykantai Church Of The Holy Trinity

Located between the two modern highways – at the most important road of the country and one of the most heavily used rail links, on a small hill, stands a moderate Rykantai Church. Just like many buildings of the ancient cult, the sanctum has at least a few stylistic features. Though there are quite a few Gothic elements, however, this sanctum is important as a rare example of the Renaissance style in the context of the sacral Lithuanian buildings.

Lentvaris Church Of The Annunciation Of The Blessed Virgin Mary

The neo-Romanesque architecture in Lithuania mostly followed the Germanic tradition. One of the exceptions is Lentvaris Church which follows the forms of the ancient Romanesque sanctums of Italy. It is no coincidence that the church has been designed under the commission of the Counts Tiškevičiai by the architect of this country, Orsiono Bongi, who has been requested to design according to the architecture typical of the old Lombardy churches.

Onuškis St. Apostle Philip And Jacob Church With The Churchyard Gates

In 1829 the Šetkevičiai family, who at that time were the owners of the currently deteriorated Onuškis Manor, were credited for construction of a new masonry church. The sanctum is an example of the classicistic architecture combining brick masonry parts covered with light-colour plaster and masonry made of dark-colour stones filling large planes. This could be seen as a certain reflection of the Romanticism Era.
