The tower of Chateau de Melzéard was built in 1419. In French, it is called a donjon, which means keep in English (a refuge of last resort).
We heard your requests for more on the tower, and we are now sharing this footage from fall 2025 before we started any work.
Over 600 years ago, each stone was hand-cut and perfectly placed to create this secure tower.
Machicolations, the holes around the top edge of the tower, were built to pour hot liquid or sand on attacking enemies.
You can see the interior wooden roof structure that supports the pointy, slated roof.
