Fishing the Flats of Choctawhatchee Bay for Big Redfish
Fishing the Flats of Choctawhatchee Bay for Big Redfish. Spent the afternoon and evening fishing for redfish in and around the grass flats on the south side of the bay. I was mainly fishing with live shrimp behind a popping cork using 20 pound braid with a 10 pound fluoro leader for stealth. After spending several frustrating hours hooking and unhooking hardhead catfish I finally hooked into a nice 26.5" redfish right before the sun was at the horizon. It was a rewarding night after sticking with it even though I was flustered and ready to give up. Sometimes the best fishing trips aren't the ones where you catch the most or biggest fish, but the one where you really have to dig in and fish hard just to land that one keeper for the dinner table. This particular fish actually made it all the way back to Oklahoma and was eaten at my fire station by the crew along with a few other reds.
