Profile of Arboretum Bambu Linuhung, Bamboo Conservation Land in Purwakarta Indonesia
Arboretum Bambu Linuhung is a bamboo conservation and learning center located in the SDN 2 Cikopo complex, Bungursari District, Purwakarta Regency. Established through a collaboration between the Purwakarta Education Office and the Self Learning Institute (SLI), this arboretum covers an area of 11,000 square meters that was previously abandoned.
Currently, the arboretum has planted around 400 bamboo trees comprising 43 species from various regions in Indonesia and several other countries. Each tree is equipped with a barcode containing information such as the planter’s name, benefits, bamboo species, and planting date. This digital data can be accessed anytime and serves as a digital literacy learning tool for students. (kompasiana.com)
Besides serving as a conservation area, Arboretum Bambu Linuhung functions as an education center, research facility, green open space, and water absorption area. Future development plans include building facilities such as a bamboo playground, pedestrian paths around the arboretum, running and cycling tracks, and a meeting hall for 500 people made from bamboo materials.
This initiative is a concrete step toward environmental conservation, especially in industrial areas that require better air quality. Bamboo plants are known for their ability to absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide, playing a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance and supporting sustainable living principles.
