up hit the like button if you haven't
already hit the like button so I want to
talk to you guys about what's going on
with Walmart some big changes and um
this is actually something that might
have actually slipped under the radar uh
I want to talk to you guys about
Walmart's recent policy changes and this
is going to affect a lot of people uh if
you're like me you go to Walmart pretty
much uh all the time for a lot of
different things whoa we got rad data
four Catalia already in the room what is
going on you guys um I see some of y'all
got notifications turned on so you know
now I know Walmart is like you know that
that One-Stop shop for pretty much
everything from apples to Automotive
needs uh you know uh automotive part I
mean like you know if you need tires if
you need milk Walmart's pretty much got
it right and it's usually you know um
it's usually for for you know pretty
good deals for the most part right but
they have made some sneaky tweaks and
that could literally hit us where it
hurts our wallets right and you know
especially with super high inflation
record high inflation uh you know
soaring interest rates mortgage rates
car loan rates credit card rates we
don't need that right now right um you
know skyh high prices on everything gas
prices whatever right actually gas
prices are a little bit lower but anyway
you know what I'm talking about right so
this is the last thing we need right now
but I want to kind of unpack what
Walmart's been up to and how this is
likely going to be changing the game now
I got a question for you guys and I want
you to I want you to tell me this sounds
familiar to you okay have you you know
you ever get lost in a store like even
though you've been there hundred times
before well here's why that is right so
this is actually a psychological trick
that is done on purpose and it's known
as the gruin transfer I don't know if
you guys have ever heard of that right
anyway Walmart knows all about this hack
and the stores actually put their high
demand products in the back of the
building so you got to walk all
throughout the store several different
aisles just to get there now as you're
attempting to get through this maze this
Labyrinth you stumble across a lot of
different items items you didn't plan on
picking up or checking out on your way
to get the milk which is always in the
back of the store you know that right so
this basically this hack makes you lose
track of what you came in the store for
and it nudges you toward impulse buying
impulse purchases put it on your credit
card you know and then you know they got
at the self checkout they got the uh the
new uh affirm so you can uh go ahead and
make yourself a slave to interest High
interest rates and credit cards by you
know picking up all this extra stuff you
didn't plan on getting all right so
that's one thing right but what's the
big secret going on with Walmart's uh
new situation going on right uh I see
you guys up in the comments 269 for gas
in Memphis uh Mississippi 260 uh
Pennsylvania's got $3.25 a gallon for
gas wow um Bermuda most expensive place
on Earth loaf of bread is $7 to 8
according to Robert Daniels wow it's
crazy so so what's the big secret with
Walmart right what's the big secret that
Walmart's been keeping well recently
they've been making some significant Pol
policy changes right but here's a catch
guys they've been kind of kind of hush
hush on this one you know just kind of
sh sh don't tell everybody don't tell
everybody about it okay no big
announcements no Fanfare but why the
secrecy why the secrecy well it's about
the bottom line guys it's about profits
it's about boosting that stock price um
S&P 500 is hitting highs Dow Jones is
hitting highs right they're all about
that bottom line and shareholders know
about that shareholders want to make
sure that the Q4 and q1 earnings are on
the up and up so that you know that they
can uh increase the perceived value of
the business of the company this is how
it works right but you see Walmart's a
big business giant right but even even
the Giants can actually feel the pinch
though especially in Economic Times
right now let's talk about you and me
let's talk about the regular Joe's the
regular Janes you know we're pretty much
all you know we're already juggling
bills rent mortgage payments increasing
property taxes homeowners insurance the
whole Gambit right maybe even a car
payment I mean some people got thousand
car payments it's it's wild how many
people
do um but it's it's no surprise because
the average car right now is like
$48,000 for a brand new car which is
just kind of crazy to think that that's
the average now anyway and a lot of
people are just trying to keep food on
the table right but it's not getting any
easier with these prices that are going
up everywhere and I want to talk to you
guys about something that just kind of
Trumps everything that I've just talked
to you guys about before or or earlier
uh way more impactful than what we've
just discussed right so um gas prices
groceries you name it everything's
higher right inflation's hitting us hard
our dollar is not going as far as it
used to but this is where Walmart's
changes come into play so these tweaks
they might seem small guys but they can
have a huge impact on how much that
we're going to be spending on every
single trip and this is by Design right
they're not going to make some big
announcement about this
right but why do we flock to Walmart why
do we flock to Walmart you know it's
kind of like the Walmart's like the
Swiss army knife of stores right you
need a birthday card a new phone set of
tires Walmart's pretty much got you
covered need groceries check right uh a
phone charger you know cuz you left your
phone charger at a friend's place and
they're they're not at home and you need
your charger now check right so they
pretty much got
everything um and of course the prices
are pretty pretty you know competitive
usually they're very hard to beat which
is which is actually more concerning
it's a little bit more alarming because
a lot of you guys have actually told me
that in some of your towns there's no
Walmart or the there's no Walmart close
to you cuz not everybody lives in a u a
well-developed
um uh a well economically developed
Society in other words if you're in a
super rural part of town you may not
have a Walmart for like 40 miles and I
don't I didn't I didn't really take that
into consideration until someone had
brought that to my attention and the
bigger problem with that is that a lot
of these people who don't have a Walmart
nearby they actually have smaller mom
and pop stores and those mom and pop
stores can't compete with Walmart's uh
buying power meaning they don't get the
deals that Walmart can get from
different manufacturers and suppliers so
Mom and Pop stores are normally even
worse in terms of prices and you know
people are getting slaughtered out here
right because if you don't have a
Walmart nearby then you're forced to go
to the mom and pop stores it's kind of a
double-edged sword if you keep going to
the Walmart it makes it harder and
harder for the mom and pop stores to
compete and if you don't go to the mom
and pop stores right you know then they
eventually go out of business and then
more people go to Walmart which it's
it's kind of like this cycle that
happens um that a lot of people are not
prepared for or paying attention to or
can even like you know afford to change
because even if you wanted to support
mom and pop it's kind of hard to do that
if you don't have the extra money to do
it and most people are not going to just
spend more just to support I think
that's and if you guys disagree with me
let me know anyway so Walmart is super
duper super duper convenient for the
most part and that is a big draw right
and let's not forget about the variety
they got everything in there right but
the big attraction though those super
good deals you know we've seen those
roll back signs right you know the whole
wall I remember the old school
commercials where Walmart used to
advertise those roll back prices and
whatnot right it just screams savings
even if they don't necessarily run those
commercials anymore but who doesn't like
a good bargain right it's like Walmart's
like waving a magic wand and reducing
prices for us
right this has a this has ultimately
made Walmart like not just a store but
just kind of a Lifeline for a lot of
people especially when every penny
counts right and I was talking about how
like how much more um
affluent how can I say this how much
more affluent customers are now shopping
at Walmart people making $200,000 a year
300 $400,000 a year more of those people
with that level of earning power are
shopping at Walmart so what does that
tell you right people are looking for
deals right but here's where the plot
thickens right so Walmart changed their
coupon policy now for the longest time
couponers you know could pretty much
just kind of strut up into into a
Walmart and and just snag deals um that
kind of felt like you know it felt like
they were just like really getting away
with stuff in a good way right but
now Walmart say
hey our deals are good enough we're
going to have to change this up right so
Walmart's tightening the rains why well
it's simple and you guys know the answer
to this right they're trying to stop
their profits from leaking right right
so let's get into the nitty-gritty here
right so Walmart known for its wide
range of competitive prices products
they made a subtle yet very significant
shift in their policy in their coupon
policy so pay attention guys CU a lot of
you guys um are are actually taking the
time to cut some coupons and you'll
you'll feel the effect of this right so
this isn't just some minor tweak it's
actually a change that mirrors the
company's strategy to minimize their
losses and to in increase their profit
margins
okay now you know we know a lot of
different Walmart stores have announced
closures this is kind of this is kind of
their their response to this right this
isn't just a minor tweak right so you
know like you know with inflation
hitting us left and right every penny
counts right but with with these changes
saving saving as we used to be able to
kind of count on might get a little bit
tougher so here's the deal so Walmart's
no longer going to be giving cash
refunds or applying the overages when a
coupon value exceeds the items price now
I'm going to go ahead and say that one
more time because I know some of you
guys might have been you know messing
around on your phone looking out the
window yelling at the kids you know
responding to the microwave beeping get
your stuff out the microwave is it's
been done for like 6 minutes but guys
I'm going to say this again so Walmart
will know no longer give cash refunds or
apply the overages when your coupon
value exceeds the item price so what
does this
mean had to Wet My
Whistle so well if you're used to
getting you know that little extra bit
of cash back or a discount on your total
bill because your coupon was worth more
than the product well guys that ain't
happening no more so that hack is being
deleted okay so Walmart's getting rid of
that hack you can't do that one anymore
now you can only use four identical
coupons per household per day so this is
a big shift from the old couponing days
where the sky was the limit remember the
the what is it the what's that is it
like Extreme Couponing or something like
that people used to walk into these
Walmarts with like these ridiculous
loads of uh stuff in the in the grocery
carts and it would just amaze me at how
much much they would get for so little
or sometimes they would actually leave
the store getting paid to take stuff it
was like it was like literally like
daytime robbery but in a good way anyway
uh I've never ever been that good um but
you know I I really admire those who
have been able to pull that off um have
you guys ever seen anything like that I
don't know if it was just me but that
that used to just like really just I was
like man there's no way they're doing
this but anyway apparently they had you
know they get like you know a year
Supply like P Pap towels and stuff like
that and and and like you know all this
other stuff that more than you'd ever
use but they would just somehow find a
hack to be able to get all this stuff
for for free almost anyway so anyway so
here's where it gets even more 21st
century guys right so Walmart they're
leaning very heavily on technology for
coupon acceptance right so we're talking
AI we're talking about self checkout
we're talking about scanner Bots we're
talking
about um um Artificial Intelligence on
this thing right so basically Walmart is
leveling up their game with a coupon
accept and thing they're leveraging Ai
and gone are the days when you could
just like kind of wave over a staff
member who could manually override a
coupon that just wouldn't stand now if
the M if the machine says no it's a
no-o so now the machines override the
humans target has changed their return
policy they do not give you cash back
they put the amount on a gift card
appreciate that Catalia uh sailor sailor
spirit says it's sad Sam Walton never
wanted this to happen to his company and
he wanted to have competition such as
Kmart that were bargain pric goods via
Sears man Sears I remember man I
remember being like being a kid and
especially around Christmas time my mom
would be going to the mall or whatever
and we would always stop in Sears and I
wanted to hang out in their toy section
uh we never had any money to actually
buy any toys on on a whim well we did
occasionally but you know I didn't
expect to get anything but it was just
always cool to kind of like walk through
the toy uh Toy aisles and just check
stuff out but anyway um times are Chang
and fellas times are changing ladies so
the tech the Tech's making the final
call which might mean some of your
coupons will not work even if your
coupons are valid and if the machine
says no the humans can't override the
machines that's a problem does anybody
else see a problem with that I see a
problem with
that um kind of reminds me of some of
those movies like iroot and you know
where the machines take over anyway so
what does this mean for us the Shoppers
it means we're going to have to go you
know we got to have to be a little bit
more strategic with our coupon game no
more Extreme Couponing where you walk
out with a cart full of goods and you
know and and not having to without
having to spend hardly any money so for
those who relied heavily on those
discounts this change could mean a very
noticeable increase in your shopping
Bill and to be honest guys it's a time
where every dollar counts this isn't the
best news now I will say you know
growing up uh in my household
like my mom wouldn't let me just walk
into a Walmart well we didn't do that
much walmar in when I was a kid but like
Sears for example we go into Sears and
it wasn't a whole lot of hey let me get
this toy and then we just just grab it
right my mom was very smart with her
money she actually invested in like
savings bonds and uh she joined these
like investment clubs so she gave me a
very good Head Start in understanding
certain things that you should do with
money and I think a lot of people are
actually starting to pay attention
nowadays unfortunately some people
didn't necessarily have the Head Start
that I got but thankfully my mom was
paying attention and she invested in
these different things and as she was
learning to invest and save money and
she would tell me hey we're not going to
buy this because we're going to buy
these savings bonds that are going to be
worth more in the future which back then
she was finding these savings bonds that
were paying out like 12% interest so it
was crazy back then so anyway uh Mom
Dukes was super smart on that front and
um you know super duper you know I
really appreciate that really appreciate
that um but let's be honest guys you
know in a time where every dollar counts
this is not necessarily the best news
right now I've heard from a lot of you
guys you know may of you guys um you
know about how these changes are making
it harder to save money right and I get
it you know with with everything getting
more expensive every penny saved matters
right I mean let's just talk about like
you know the key changes so first up no
more cash refunds or or applying
overages when your coupon value exceeds
your items price right and so this means
if you had a coupon for like $3 off but
the item's 250 you don't get the you
don't get the 50 cents back um nor is
that extra 50 cents taking off your bill
so they ain't doing that no more right
so I know for some people it might sound
small but it does add up I mean I've got
some dividends that you know uh some
dividend stocks that pay 50 cents every
month and depending upon how many you
stop how many stocks you have that's 50
cents times how many stocks you have so
you might look at it's only 50 cents but
it definitely adds up right and of
course there's there's also this limit
right like only uh only
four identical coupons per household per
day right so if you planning on stocking
up and had say I don't know like six of
the same coupon well you might have to
reach rethink your strategy on that one
so why is Walmart tightening the reins
on these coupons well again you know it
boils down to minimizing losses and
boosting their profits it's a business
after all you know like they're feeling
the pinch too and I'm not saying like
you know I'm on board or you know
whatever I'm just saying it's just basic
math this is business and businesses
companies they are paying attention to
their profits they're paying attention
to money being spent on Advertising
money marketing budgets they're looking
at everything wherever they can cut
costs if they're not getting a good
return on their investment if they feel
like they can get a higher return on
their investment or higher Roi they're
going to do
it um and the pressure comes from um
their own expenses increasing the
pressure comes from their shareholders
that are invested in Walmart right uh
shareholders want to see the stock go up
how does the stock go up well the stock
has to have a perceived value that's
going to be greater in the future than
it is today so you know if these
companies can't continue to convince
shareholders that hey you know um the
value is going to keep going up well
shareholders are going to start selling
off shares crashing stock stock price
will go down right so that's not what
they want and a lot of the uh Executives
you know for big companies like Walmart
like Black Rock like Vanguard like these
guys uh their compensations typically
heavily based on uh stock
options and so if the stock price drops
then then then they ain't gonna be happy
about that right so um but yeah they
like like Kevin said they making bank
now you know at the end of the day like
I said it's a business uh and by
tightening up on these coupon policies
think about it Walmart's got how many
stores how many customers hitting up
Walmart using these coupons 50 cents
times millions of transactions I mean
heck 50 cents times a million
transactions is half a million dollars
right there and I wouldn't be surprised
if there's a million transactions that
Walmart's doing on a daily basis so they
if they theoretically saved a half a
million dollars a day that's
like uh that's like
$80 million a year saved just by 50
cents per transaction just doing some
basic math off the top of my head but
you see where I'm going with this right
so by tightening up these coupon
policies basically trying to control how
much discount that they're giving out
right and it's not just about the direct
loss from the coupons though they're
also you know they're also
like uh basically there's also the cost
of managing the coupon system itself and
of course processing to dealing with
fraud fake coupons duplicate coupon all
of that right so they're trying to like
you know to be honest you know we've all
heard these stories about these extreme
couponers really pushing the boundaries
they're trying trying to they're trying
to cut back on all of that stuff so you
know this move by Walmart could
literally be a way to kind of keep
things in check so but you know here's
the thing guys you know while Walmart's
looking out for its bottom line where
does this leave us where does it leave
the Shoppers right so you know are we
being squeezed out of savings in a time
when we need them the most you know what
I'm saying like hi record high inflation
guys I
mean at least at least on my with with
the amount of time I spent on Earth I
don't know of any period in time where
inflation was higher Maybe not today but
in the last two years right and you know
it's kind of a tough pill to swallow
especially when you're when you're you
know trying to make ends meet and you're
your landlord uh who happens to be a
real estate investor is sending out
notices telling you that your rent's
going up it's like man can I get a break
please and then of course like your boss
at work probably didn't necessarily give
you the chunkiest raise right so that
raise is barely keeping up with
inflation let me know if anyone has
received a raise greater than 3% this
year or in the last 12 months has anyone
received a raise greater than 3% let me
know in the comments cuz um inflation is
way more than that so if you didn't get
a raise at least 3% you're making less
money even if you got a raise
um so um yeah now if if you're like me
and you want to see all of this in black
and white you can definitely find
Walmart's full coupon policy disclosure
on their official website uh I think
it's just walmart.com or something like
that is it if
it's is it walmart.com guys let me know
in the comments is it walmart.com or is
it walmart.co or.org or something else
or it maybe it's not even walmart.com I
got to double check that um anyway you
can go to walmart.com or Walmart's
official website whatever that happens
to be and you know read through their
coupon policy that way you understand
what the deal is and so you know exactly
what you're dealing with right knowledge
is power right you know this may not
necessarily be the news that anybody
wants to hear but it is what it is um
but uh but yeah uh and also we got to
talk about the the elephant in the room
right what about retail theft right what
about retail theft it's not just a a few
stolen items we're talking about this
massive Trend that's literally affecting
the entire retail industry and this is
affecting retailers profits that's what
they doing so you know this increase in
theft is not just a loss of products it
is a it's having a ripple effect that's
going to hit all of us in ways that we
may not see immediately you know we were
seeing all these viral videos of people
just you know uh walking out the stores
or you know the employees of Walmart
they can't and it's not just Walmart hey
Catalia I appreciate that um it's not
just Walmart it's like Target it's like
all these other retail stores that have
policies where the employees can't go
after potential thieves and if they're
losing that money they going to make it
up somewhere right and so this increase
in Theft it's not just about you know
loss of products it's it's going to have
a huge unexpected ripple effect that's
going to hit a lot of us right retailers
they're you know beefing up security
they're I said security
security um they're they're locking up
items like they locking up toothpaste in
some places it's ridiculous so um and
it's making it really inconvenient to
want to even shop right so retailers are
beefing up security they're investing in
these anti- theft uh
their dividend they don't want to cut
their dividend because they're losing
too much to make up to kind of like
reduce their expenses they don't want to
do that cuz that's going to freak the SC
the shareholders out shareholders are
going to sell off on the stock price
they're not going to do that so instead
of reducing the dividend paid they would
rather raise the prices or eliminate
some of these coupon uh opportunities
Melanie Sims thank you so much for your
$2 uh Super Chat very much appreciated
on this Sunday morning or Sunday
afternoon it's almost 3:00 I don't know
what time is by you guys but it's 2:47
p.m. for me um but appreciate you
Melanie good looking out um and you know
again this isn't just about a store
losing a couple T-shirts you know it's
about a systemic issue that ultimately
trickles down to me and you so you know
uh no I'm not I'm not okay with this
retail theft problem that seems to be a
trend and I wish it would just freaking
end because all it's doing is making it
more expensive for honest paying
customers like me and you guys anyway so
you know um and then of course you know
like what about this connection between
like retail and banking right well it's
kind of a tight-knit connection right
you know when retailers struggle it
often reflects in their Banking and
their financial strategies right and
we're going to see this we're going to
see this right think about it right if a
retailer is losing money due to theft
they might need more loans and they're
borrowing money at a period in time
where interest rates are pretty much
higher than they've been in the
last close to three decades um so it's
making so the cost of money is more
expensive for these retailers right
um so they might need more loans they
might need more financial assistance and
these are the situations that these
retailers are dealing with they may have
to lay more people off you know forget
about hiring people they might not be
able to keep the people that they have
right cuz the first place these
companies want to look at is
headcount can we let people go that's
the fastest way to reduce expenses to
reduce overhead to make up for this
money that we're losing right this this
is the pattern that we see right and
when Banks feel the pressure it could
lead to changes in the banks policies
and their interest rates which again
circles back to us the consumers right
now you know and speaking of banks like
let's not forget about the big players
like Bank of America JP Morgan Chase
right these are pretty much the banking
Giants of America right so you got Bank
of America you got JP Morgan Chase uh
and we already and if you guys saw my
previous video uh you saw the remarks
from JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Diamond
uh he was at the WF the world economic
Forum in Davos uh if you guys didn't
check that video out make sure you check
that one out after this one but you know
these Giants they're navigating their
own challenges like you know unrealized
losses um they've got losses in
Securities so and let's not even talk
about the whole commercial real estate
losses that they're taking right more
and more of these companies because of
remote work people working from home and
uh there's there's a reduced demand for
this commercial real estate so the
values of those properties are going
down and it's only a matter of time
before um you know the uh uh renters or
these leases start coming up for Renewal
and they start losing money on those
things uh some of these properties may
end up going up for sale or even being
foreclosed on so in simple terms this
means that some of their Investments
haven't panned out as expected and when
these big Banks start stumbling it's
going to send shock waves throughout the
entire Financial system right and and
we're seeing it right these these Banks
they're making strategic moves to stay
afloat they're adjusting their
investment strategies they're
re-evaluating their assets and sometimes
they're even making decisions that can
immediately maybe not necessarily
immediately but they can and you know
possibly have a delayed effect um
they're making decisions that might not
necessarily be immediate immediately
clear to us but there will be an impact
and that is the ultimate thing that you
need to understand that you need to be
aware of so um but but yeah these these
decisions they can affect everything
from the interest rates on our savings
accounts to the fees that we're paying
now you know but back to retail theft as
a challenge right like we're seeing more
stories in the news more videos of
brazen thefts and more discussions about
retail security right it's literally
becoming a very very hot topic not just
among retailers but among a lot of us
consumers and some of you guys have
actually told me you've actually seen
some pretty wild stuff in person let
alone some of these viral Tik Tok videos
and stuff like that that people have
been posting so um but yeah so you
know are over are are retailers
overstating the
issue maybe in some cases to draw
attention to the problem or maybe to
kind of like push some stricter laws you
guys see what's going on in California
and New York right California and New
York it's like you know they're it's
getting it's getting kind of wild out
there how they're managing um you know
um
they H how they're implementing some of
these new laws you guys aware of what
they're doing in California and New
York so you know it's a real issue it's
a real issue that's affecting your
bottom line and in turn our shopping
experiences right retailers are in a
very tough spot right now they're you
know they need to they need to they need
to tackle theft but they also need to
maintain a very welcoming environment
for Shoppers like us so it's a very very
delicate balance uh it's like the like
the Tango right try not to step on your
dancers toes your partner's toes it's
delicate dance that we have to do here
um to make Shoppers happy but also keep
the profits meeting the expectations of
the businesses and of course the
shareholders right so you know again you
know uh we're seeing everything from
increased security measures to more
sophisticated surveillance systems but
with every action there's an equal and
opposite reaction remember that from
from uh from school from science I
forget which what science class that was
I don't know if it was physical science
or chemical or uh chemistry or uh
whatever it was but anyway with every
action there's a there's an equal but
