Tuesday morning, a 24-year-old content creator walks
into the Oval Office.
Well, same day, a few hundred miles north,
FBI agents walk into senior centers in New York City.
They come out carrying boxes, a lot of boxes.
Well, coincidence? Maybe or maybe not.
Today, the kid with a camera
who keeps showing up right before the fest due
and why the president just handed him a check.
Stick around and this one gets wild.
Okay, let's start in New York. Tuesday morning, Brooklyn.
Investigators appeared to be inside the
Happy Adult Daycare Center on Fort Hamilton Parkway.
Over in Sunset Park, agents were seen
going in and out of an alleged adult daycare on 8th Avenue around noon,
some carrying out boxes.
And it wasn't just Brooklyn.
The FBI, along with Homeland Security Investigations,
hit locations in Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn.
How big is this? Well, according to
Governor Kathy Hochul, the month-long investigation
targeted more than 100 social adult daycare
providers. Hochul said they're going after providers suspected
of everything ranging from
money laundering to kickbacks to improper billing.
Now, what even is a social adult daycare? Well,
Think of a community center for seniors.
Lunch, card games, maybe some Tai Chi.
Sounds pretty sweet, right?
Your grandma deserves a place to hang out.
But here's the thing, taxpayers foot the bill.
New York has more than 400 of these programs
serving about 45,000 Medicaid members
at a cost of more than $500 million a year.
Well, that's half a billion dollars for bingo.
And authorities say some of these places
were running a scam.
They believe the center's over-billed
for services grossly inflated the number of clients
served and engaged in kickbacks.
Picture a restaurant billing you for a 50-people party
when only 5 people showed up, and then
paying those 5 to come back tomorrow.
So who saw this coming?
A guy with a camera and a hoodie.
The raids came about three months after
the influencer Nick Shirley published an investigation
into New York City adult daycare centers
in that July video he visited adult daycare businesses
in Queens and raised questions about their operations
and their public funding and he
didn't go alone Dr. Oz who runs the centers for Medicare
and Medicaid services joined him in
Flushing, Queens to confront operators
of suspected fraud he leaves three months later the FBI shows
up. It'll sound familiar, right?
It should, because he did the exact same thing in Minnesota.
Rewind to last Christmas.
Nick Shirley posted a 42-minute video on X and YouTube the day after
Christmas. He drove around Minnesota knocking
on the doors of daycare centers that were receiving
government money. His question was simple.
Where are the kids? Well, that video blew up. Within days,
it had over 131 million views on X alone.
And Washington reacted fast. The video, at least
in part, prompted Health
and Human Services to freeze child care payments to Minnesota.
And back then, Attorney General Pam Bondi applauded
the video and said that the Justice
Department had been investigating Minnesota fraud for months.
And FBI Director Kash Patel said what
had been exposed so far, quote,
is just the tip of a very large iceberg. So who is this guy?
Well, Nick Shirley is from Utah. He started out
as a teenager making prank and shock videos including
a solo trip to New York at age 16. Yep, he flew
to New York City at 16 without telling his parents
but then he grew up. Apparently he switched
to street reporting on protests, immigration and
government spending. He's built an audience of over 1 million subscribers
and hundreds of millions of
views. And his style? No studio, no teleprompter,
just him, a camera, and a lot of awkward questions
on somebody's doorstep. Here's what happened next.
In July, a woman named Fahima Muhammad
pleaded guilty to wire fraud
and conspiracy for submitting inflated meal claims for kids at her
child care center, according to the Justice Department.
And the White House says Muhammad
was featured in Nick Shirley's video.
He's also taken his show on the road to California
and then to Capitol Hill where he testified
before the Senate Homeland Security Committee
about his investigations into Medicaid,
daycare, and hospice programs.
Well, you know, from prank videos to Senate testimony,
not bad for a kid who couldn't wait to see Times Square.
But Tuesday, Tuesday he got invited somewhere even bigger
and he walked out with a check.
So here's the scene. Oval Office, President Trump,
Vice President J.D. Vance, and Nick Shirley.
for the occasion, a brand new program under
the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, or WHIP,
W-H-I-P, anyone who submits a tip to fraud.gov
that leads to a fraud conviction or a significant
federal enforcement action can receive up to $30,000
and the Justice Department will run it.
you know the whole pot is 25 million dollars. Think
of it like a bounty, right? The old Wild West
had wanted posters and now we have fraud.gov. Well, President Trump put
his own spin on the payouts
he said rewards will work out to a one percent commission
on the dollar amount of fraud a tip
helps uncover and if two people both claim
the same tip, well Trump has that covered too
I will be the arbitrator of all these decisions he said
and here's the part young people should
hear President Trump said that journalists could participate too
so you know the citizen journalists
independent creators people with a phone
and a conscience are invited. Well, the first big
moment Trump was expected to present
a ten thousand dollar check to Nick Shirley and the
Hill reported the first award apparently went to Nick Shirley
who joined the Trump events in the
Oval Office. And Shirley's message was short.
When you expose fraud, you help save America.
He also added the fraud steals from poor and needy people,
which is the real heart of it.
Every fake client at a fake daycare is a real dollar
not going to a real family. And this isn't
a one-off either. Trump set up a fraud task force in March
and put JD Vance in charge of it. FTC
Chairman Andrew Ferguson serves as vice president
and the White House summed up this or their
attitude this way this administration has zero tolerance
for individuals who steal from Americans
so Washington is officially paying people
to hunt fraud will it work will it get messy
and who's next on Nick Shirley's list what
do you think let me know in the comments below so
So one kid, one camera, and one simple question,
where's the money going?
That question took him from Utah to Minnesota to New York
and all the way to the Oval Office.
No charges have been announced yet in New York,
