ladies and gentlemen this is Joe's
classic video games back with another
really cool pinball machine video for
you this evening this is data East
famous Star Trek pinball machine this
was released for the 25th anniversary of
Star Trek and it's pretty cool they made
they have made a ton of Star Trek
pinball machines Bally and and it's kind
of interesting that all the companies
have made it Bally made one and I
believe 79 and then data East made this
one in 91 and then Williams made it may
have been Bally - you know Williams and
Bally ruined by the same company but
Williams made one in 93 ish i would
guess 94 maybe which was a Star Trek The
Next Generation and then Stern pinball
has now made one a couple years ago that
was based kind of one of the new movies
so they have got their money's worth out
of Star Trek and all four of them I
played and I liked all four of them so
so just a cool pinball theme this is the
Daddy East one like I said they several
companies have made one but this one was
based on the or was meant to commemorate
the 25th anniversary and it features the
original cast so you've got Captain Kirk
and everybody's favorite Spock it's got
a neat neat look to it these data East
games don't get a lot of love this one
here is pretty respected but a lot of
these data East games are just now kind
of coming into their own people have
they haven't been all that desirable for
years but now people are starting to
give them a second look and realizing
that a lot of them are pretty pretty
good games the artwork on the side is
awesome obviously I'm not a big Trekkie
so I don't know a lot about all of the
little like the different versions of
the enterprise and all that but
I'm sure the people watching this video
do or they wouldn't be watching the
video the front it's in pretty good
shape it's got a little bit of art it's
been touched up but looks pretty good
then this side of course is just a
mirror of the other side now I believe
again I'm not a Trekkie but I've seen
all the movies and stuff I think that's
a Romulan warbird am i right I don't
know what this one is with the bird
underneath it maybe I got him backwards
maybe that's the Romulan warbird yeah
maybe that's the Romulan warbird and
that's the Klingon ship I don't know I
might have to go back and touch up on my
my Star Trek so it's a really cool look
and the most stunning thing about it was
this back glass looks fantastic look at
that that's amazing
and so it has this the reason that the
middle looks so weird there if you
haven't seen this game is because that's
a it's one of those little I don't know
what they call that but basically
depending on their I guess it's not the
angle because they move a piece in there
there there's a little motor in there
that moves a screen in front of that
that makes them disappear
so they actually transport up like they
did on the show so you might get a more
a pattern there because it's got these
lines in front of it
that blocks some of the art and so what
it does is it moves the lines over the
the art of the cast and they disappear
live long and prosper
you'll notice you you can hear all of
the lights going off that's something
that happens on a lot of these older
games
we tried recapping the soundboard and
recapping the power supply and it still
did it so I don't know if there's any
way to get rid of that or not but it
bothers some people but other people
it's not really that big of a deal so
the art on the play field is pretty good
it's all hand-drawn you've got these
cool classy plastic cutouts of some of
the Star Trek ladies on the above the
flippers and then you've got I guess
that's dock I don't know the deal with
the fencing just Captain Kirk
there's Spock and is that lieutenant la
hora is that how you say her name and
then that's uh is it check off or
something like that can't remember so
you've got Spock over here doing this
thing I don't know who that guy is
you get Kirk over here shooting somebody
you've got is that Conn I believe am I
right about that
the famous con
so anyway and then you got the crystals
up here the delay theum crystals
that's a weird to track sometimes only
half of them flash and then sometimes
all of them flash they all work see
whatever then you've got a couple pop
bumpers up here and you've got these
guys with the brains up here at the top
that are your roll overs you've got a
green lady and another guy I'm sure all
this is like obvious to all of the Star
Trek people but I haven't seen most of
the episodes laxman to boldly go where
no man has gone before
to explore strange new worlds to seek
out new life and new civilizations these
are the voyages of the Starship
Enterprise its five-year mission and
then you get four drop targets on the
left and four drop targets on the right
and you've got this big hole right in
the middle now back then they did a lot
more in the games they had a lot more
stuff in them then then you will find on
a typical newer game that's out now it
kind of went to a high point and data
East kind of road that Daddy he's poured
all kinds of stuff into their games so
you've got eight drop targets you'd be
hard-pressed to find a new game now that
they put a drop targets on because
that's a lot of extra machinery and it
rises up the the Bill of Materials and
then you've got a hole right here you
can shoot into because there's a subway
so there's a ramp a subway a plastic
subway underneath the machine where if
the ball goes down in that hole it rolls
down to here
etc and then the most amazing thing
about this particular play field is this
huge dam wrap they put on it I've never
seen one quite this big the one on we
had a motor dome that has a huge ramp on
it but this one here takes the cake it's
all one piece and I don't know how they
made it
you'd think that they'd messed that up
trying to make one that big but you have
a ramp over here and it's kind of like a
half ramp and then it stops so the piece
starts right here goes behind the back
box and then over here it starts down
here yeah it starts down here goes up
and behind the back box it's all one
piece comes out here splits into all one
piece comes all the way down the left
side and then over here comes all the
way down the right side and that's all
one piece one big huge ramp which is
kind of easy to take off whenever we
were taking the playfield apart and
working on everything without all man
it's gonna be a pain but it's not that
hard to take off really just one big
form piece now I don't you can't get a
replacement one of those but I would
imagine that thing would have to be
three or four hundred dollars if they
made a replacement just because of its
size and the complexity of trying to get
it perfect and then on top of that they
put these little rope lights that go
along the ramp on it and so they just
kind of poured all kinds of stuff in
this one they're really decked it all
out as they should have for a great
theme like Star Trek you know you might
as well do it all the way if you're
gonna do it so let's read over the
instructions a little bit we'll see how
to play this thing says hold either
flipper for an instant info so on the
usually that means on the back box that
will tell you the like who
who's got the high score and all that
stuff
I love the little dot matrix animations
on this one are really cool shields down
it even the data east games featuring
the voices of Scottie and McCoy
on the data east ones they would even
show animations for some of their other
upcoming games so on this one it shows
Hook and tries to get you excited for
hook that would be coming out soon after
this one or perhaps it came out just
before this one I'm not sure and then
another thing of course is if you'll
notice the display is half size of most
of the the modern DMD games which is
pretty interesting they made good use of
it them problem is if you if you need a
replacement one of those is really
expensive
we'll see ya check this part out Star
Trek 25th anniversary the leader in
pinball design and innovation alright
okay so they have a little diagram here
well they actually show you the play
field so you can figure out everything
the skill-shot shoot the warships
located in the display with flashing
launch button aim it ships center for
maximum points so basically whenever you
go to start the game it says fire photon
torpedo and on the back glass I mean on
the on the DMD it will show a a enemy
ship flying by with its crosshairs and
you try to shoot it as a flashbang by
honey that's your skill shot winners
don't use drugs people all right Laser
kick shoot the top right shoot right top
lane to light the laser kick
we light laser kids so if you make that
shot it launched it lights your laser
kick over here which will save your ball
if you lose it out to the left
multiplier top three lanes advanced the
multiplier sets the top three rollovers
out up there with the three brainy
looking guys collect multi ball collect
crystals to open the transporter shoot
the ball into the transporter to beam
and transport the crew Auto three ball
begins with beaming effects so all
around the play field you have these
billet theam crystals as they're called
laying all over the place and they're
all numbered so three is that target
right there
four is a target in the middle five is
that target right there eight is if you
get all four of those drop targets down
seven is if you get all four of those
drop targets down six is the left in
lane nine is the right in line two is
the right ramp and one is the left limb
that's how you get all of them out once
you get all of them it tells you to hit
the center target again and so if you
hit that Center target it raises the
transporter now the transporter is this
ramp so this ramp can actually raise up
and then you can shoot under so if you
shoot under it it locks the ball alright
actually I think it goes into the subway
if you shoot it if you shoot hundred it
goes into the subway which goes on all
the way underneath the play field down
all the way under the play field down to
here and ends up over here but whenever
it does that it beams up the crew and on
the DMV it says something about
transport and it's got arrows pointing
up and if you look at the back glass the
crew fades away and then disappears like
they do on the show pretty incredible
and then it starts multi-ball now after
it starts multi-ball the crews gone the
whole time and there's just all kinds of
stuff going on the music's pumping
everything's great and then whenever you
lose all of the balls except for your
last one you know to get out of multi
ball they beam back in man they just
don't do really cool stuff like that on
pinball machines anymore I guess some of
them do
not many so that's that's one of the
coolest tricks on a machine really if
you think about it
okay jackpot in multi ball shoot the
moving primary crystal to open
transporter chute transporter to collect
10 15 20 25 50 and 100 million jackpots
so in multi ball you hit the swinging oh
by the way that target moves back and
forth the whole time in multi ball you
hit the swinging target and it opens up
the transporter again and then if you
make that shot you get various bonuses
going up to 100 million dollars one
hundred million points primary crystal
one shot at the moving primary crystal
advances the phasers when yellow and
opens transporter for multi ball and
jackpot when green so there you get a
million plus I didn't know about this
one shoot left and right ramps or
primary crystal to advance phasers when
complete shoot primary crystal for
million plus alright ice planet so these
are the phasers I believe here the red
and green in the middle ice planet when
lit complete remaining drop targets for
extra ball or ten million points so
here's the ice planet extra ball
here's ice planet 10 million points
