Taito Nastar Warrior Arcade Game - Gameplay, Artwork, Overview Video

ladies and gentlemen this is joe's classic video games back with another fantastic arcade game video for you this evening this is a neat one uh this is tatos nastar warrior some people pronounce it taito i'm from the south though we mispronounce everything so who cares tato tato's nastar warrior this was the sequel to rastan now this wasn't released on much i think they called it rastan saga in japan and uh i think they released rastan let's see rastan saga was rest in rastan saga 2 was called nastar warrior in the arcade in america and i think uh rastan saga 2 the the japanese title was released on the the turbo graphics 16 and i think the genesis so you may have played it i really like this era of games from the late 80s these are probably my absolute favorites the late 80s early 90s just because they were i can't tell i keep listening to what they say on the game i can't i can't make out what they're saying but uh the uh the late 80s early 90s when they're pretty cheesy but it's just kind of what i remember as you know playing when i was a kid is this type of game because this is the type of stuff that was on the genesis and the nintendo and stuff um so these are really cool to me but so we got this one in just a few days ago actually and uh it was in pretty bad shape but we fixed it up just finished it today and it came out pretty good now this was a game that i don't think there was ever a dedicated version meaning you couldn't buy it from the factory and then just ship you this game so you had to you had to put it together as a kit so we talked about that a lot but the kits came with the artwork that you see on it that you put just on a generic cabinet or a cabinet that used to be another game that you were turning into nastar warrior well this particular one we looked inside and it it appears to us that this cabinet was never any other game so i think this i believe this to be just a kit cabinet that they sold just ready for you to install whatever game you wanted in it so it looks like the operator bought this cabinet and then turned it into nastar warrior and all these years later it's still nastar warrior i don't know how long it's been sitting in a uh warehouse but surely this thing they couldn't operate past maybe the mid 90s and make any money on it you know so it's probably been hold away for 20 years not working right and we fixed it up and got it working right so it doesn't have any side art on it it didn't when we got it so um some of these kit games actually did not have side art like didn't even come with side this particular game i'm sure probably did although i've never seen it so i don't know what it's supposed to look like it's missing but here's the marquee you've got this this back here in the back is called the skyscraper it's like a big uh castle that the game is based around nastar warrior and like i said this is the sequel to rastan or rastan saga as it was called and you know you'll notice they did something weird with the the name r-a-s-t-a-n warrior so they just spelled rastan basically backwards to make the game i don't know what all that's about or why they decided to do that but they did and this is faded a little bit it's blue a lot of i think originally was supposed to be green or at least the trees this may have been blue what did they say i can't make out what she's saying look pac-man say what [Music] we got some cool stuff in here right now folks but uh so the artwork so you got the trees here and then it goes down this game is really kind of uh macabre is that how you pronounce that all of the little bad guys are just ridiculous i mean they're kind of like pieces of ghoulish looking bodies and things so you've got this skeleton with a sword and weird medusa-like hair you know and then you've got more of it down here and then you've got the same thing over here it kind of mirrors it and so this this is the uh overlay that they sent you in the kit so you would just put it on your cabinet and then uh put your buttons in and your joystick wherever you could and they had a little sticker that you put wherever your one player start button is and wherever your two player start button is the one button jump attacks and the one button jumps these are new buttons but the original ones on all the kits were red and yellow so they must have sent you red and yellow buttons with the kit and these joysticks i believe came with the kit as well um they still work great on a game like this that's not like street fighter where you don't have to do fireball moves and stuff like that these little cheesy joysticks work fine because as long as it'll move in the direction that you're going it's not really that big of a deal okay instructions and so you know the kit would have came with this sticker that you were to stick on something it was probably meant to actually go on the control panel but the way they laid this one out they didn't really have a good place to stick it so they just put it on the bezel nastar warrior instructions attack button jump button joystick upper defense so you can you know he's got a shield you can press up and defend above you for the bats and things like that uh and you can attack to the left you can jump like they're showing move the joystick downward and press the attack button to attack the enemy's legs move left move right kneel down while jumping move the joystick downward and press the attack button to stab downward collect items to use any one of three weapons so you can get this sword sword you can get the claw thing which is kind of weird is she saying enter the realm something like that and then you can uh you can get this this uh sword and shield combo so this one swords like a broad sword you use both hands to swing it so i will set up the tripod and we'll play it a little bit i hope you got to see enough of the cabinet like i said this didn't come like this they bought this cabinet specifically to put it in but it's a neat little cabinet still in good shape not perfect shape it looks nice so i'll set up the tripod and we'll play it a little bit and uh you can tell me what you think i'll let it roll through so we can read the little storyline enter the realm or something like that a wicked group has invaded the skyscraper and has tried to make it their own if the situation is left as it is the place would eventually be controlled by this wicked group they're not gonna give us any more info basically your conan the rastania was a sacred place in which the temple skyscraper why do they do that no one can read that fast a wicked group has invaded the skyscraper and has tried to make it their own i guess something was lost in translation but we'll play it a little bit we'll see what y'all think yes yes we do i already like it that guy looks just like me so a courageous young man has risen in revolt against the wicked group [Music] so you can do this that that you can jump and then do this like a pogo stick with the sword if you hold the button down he gets like freaking stab happy guy's tricky he goes low so i got the sword i think that's the broadsword yeah you can also jump and attack so how would he swing if he's holding the broadsword oh we can't explain that i thought i had him caught on something but they had already thought of it oh yeah you can swing okay boom [Music] i kind of want to keep this oh i should be showing you some of the bad guys so look that's a skeleton or no it's not a skeleton it's kind of like the skeleton on the heart we were looking at [Music] that didn't work so now i've got something where it like it hurts more this is like a snake [Music] type thing what all the bad guys don't know is that i have unlimited quarters this is like a wraith or something is that what they call this boom boom boom oh i'm back to the basic conan all right check these little things out it turns you into wolverine oh what is that oh it makes you faster cool [Music] i wonder if it's permanent it's kind of hard to jump up on it through there [Music] the character design is pretty cool [Music] the music's cool [Music] i got the super power-up thing that i don't even know what it is [Music] oh about to run out of time people i took too long trying to show you a tutorial do this uh oh boss fight boss fight with unlimited quarters [Music] how are you supposed to do this oh i guess it worked out i guess the way you're supposed to do it is you just put in another quarter i have opened a fire now i am determined to hold my ground at any cost [Music] okay so for future people playing this stay away from those [Music] that didn't work out so great i wonder if i do that if it'll help me probably [Music] see i learned it takes a while but i learned [Music] hmm [Music] push one player button to continue press two player button to start before timer reaches zero all right so this by the way this is a two-player at any time game you know so you can just join [Music] in [Music] man you can't do anything with those guys i wonder if the broadsword would kill him [Music] what come on [Music] one one two three that's three [Music] uh-oh uh-oh you know it's gonna be so hokey that it won't let me go back and fall out of the way nope i did i don't know folks i think this might be my last stand here oh i made it [Music] foreign ah you gotta be kidding me [Music] nope [Music] hmm [Music] what man i'm bad about that down stab i haven't got that right yet [Music] so how are these working one one okay one two one two one you think there's got to be a pattern all right cool what is that i missed oh they were generous very generous now what [Music] this will probably be where i die over and over again [Music] it's got a really look how you can stand like all the way off the thing so that's why i can't jump right oh man can i go over nope [Music] okay i'll take it i believe that means another boss fight ooh it's pretty oh hell it's medusa [Music] well i got to say so far this game is awesome [Music] i bet if you were good you could probably like actually avoid getting hurt yes we do [Music] oh i want to beat her to see what the next board is very nice very cool you wicked people how did you like my assault oh here comes touch enemies all right [Music] oh it's the same bad guys from the first [Music] and the second [Music] what [Music] cool it looks awesome oh come on [Music] looks like the bat's starting to glitch out a little bit what i've got fire now i'm even cooler oh all right folks you know what that's that i would keep playing but you can go watch a play through if you want to see the whole game i'm sure somebody has done that we're just trying to show the arcade game off a little bit now by the time you see this video nastar warrior may have uh paraded off to somebody else's house we sell these to people for their home game room typically so we may not even have this available for sale anymore we're just trying to show a you know just a video so people can remember what this cool arcade game was like back in the day now if you want to see the games
