Disaster! Boeing's Starliner lost Billions of Dollars but...SpaceX to Rescue SOON!
Boeing, once hailed as the crown jewel of the U.S. aerospace manufacturing industry, has faced an unrelenting series of challenges since 2019. To be honest, this marks the darkest period in their illustrious history.
Sadly, this decline continues to this day, with no end in sight. Recently, the company announced yet another significant loss, particularly related to the Starliner program and its first flight in the fourth quarter of 2024. This suggests that the aerospace division seems to be a weak point for Boeing.
So, what will the company do about the Starliner program?
Is abandoning Starliner an option, or perhaps an inevitability in the near future?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

In a press release on January 23, Boeing provided preliminary financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024. As expected, losses seem to have a special affinity for Boeing, most notably the losses tied to the CST-100 Starliner commercial crew program.
Once hailed as the cornerstone of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, the CST-100 Starliner has now become a financial burden for the aerospace giant.

As Boeing prepares to announce its fourth-quarter financial results, the company is projected to incur an additional $400 million in costs related to Starliner, alongside other defense and space projects. This comes after a history of delays, technical glitches, and rising costs that have eroded the program's viability and strained Boeing’s broader operations.
While $400 million may not be a significant figure for a giant like Boeing, it is an unacceptably high expense when attributed solely to the Starliner program. Furthermore, this cost adds to the growing list of financial burdens plaguing Boeing's Defense, Space, and Security division. In the third quarter of 2024 alone, the company reported $250 million in charges for Starliner, reflecting ongoing challenges in resolving technical and operational issues. These losses have become a recurring theme, contributing to the division’s projected $1.7 billion in costs across multiple programs for the fourth quarter.
