The mysterious drone story just keeps getting weirder.
Will the polio vaccine be revoked?
And an FBI informant pleads guilty to lying about Hunter Biden taking bribes.
Is this equatim of everything?
Besides traumatizing Matt?
Find out more on this week's America Uncovered Headline.
Welcome to America Uncovered, I'm Chris Chappell.
Look!
Up in the sky!
It's a bird!
It's a plane!
It's James Gunn's Superman I'm cautiously optimistic about.
No, it's a whole bunch of unidentified flying objects over New Jersey.
I've covered this story earlier this week, and it's just gotten crazier.
Essentially, many mysterious lights have appeared in the sky that look like the fastest falling
star in Jersey since Snooki.
It's the most annoying situation in Jersey since The Situation.
Many media outlets are trying to calm citizens by letting them know there's a perfectly
ordinary explanation behind the mysterious lights they're seeing in the sky.
Aliens!
Sent here to impregnate our dreams and make little human alien chimera brain babies.
Or manned aircraft being misidentified as drones, according to the FBI.
Which still doesn't answer all the questions.
And some are calling these alleged drone sightings a form of mass hysteria.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
People are just acting crazy.
I mean, it's not like there's ever been airborne mysterious objects from foreign nations
sent to spy on us that the US handled in a completely incompetent manner before.
Nothing to worry about.
The Alphabet Agency has put out a joint statement.
In it, they basically say that they've received thousands of reported drone sightings, but
the vast majority are nothing to worry about, and often not even drones.
They also say that with drones becoming more and more common, with people flying them for
fun, these sorts of sightings will also become more common, and there's no cause for alarm.
Even President Biden himself said there's nothing to worry about.
Well, I feel better.
And I'm sure most Americans will buy that explanation.
The government would never lie to its citizens.
And anyway, it's not like any of these drones were seen over a military base or anything.
What's that, Shelley?
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, one of the US's most critical Air Force bases,
saw multiple drone incursions, and shut down its airspace for several hours.
Mass hysteria.
But hey, if these drones are actually a concern,
at least Congress probably knows what's up with them.
What's really tragic or frustrating to us in Congress is that the FBI has known about this
since the beginning of November, and we're getting informed just like with the Chinese
spy balloon after the public sees it and raises concern.
And that's really unacceptable.
We're a co-equal branch of government,
the Constitution's pretty clear, and they should have been communicating with us a lot sooner.
Feels great that the branches of government are bickering in front of us like
parents fighting in front of their children.
Really emotionally prepares you for seeing the family on Christmas.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer pushed a bipartisan bill
to allow local law enforcement agencies more authority to investigate drone sightings.
But the bill was blocked by Rand Paul,
who wasn't comfortable giving authorities such sweeping surveillance powers.
What? When has giving authorities massive surveillance power ever been a bad idea?
I'd say that's downright patriotic.
They should pass this and call it something like the Patriot Act.
So this is how the current administration is handling the situation.
But what will the incoming Trump administration do about such things?
Mike Waltz, Trump's pick for National Security Advisor,
says the US should have its own Iron Dome.
Israel famously has an Iron Dome, an air defense system that shoots down flying objects.
Like a PS5 remake of Space Invaders.
The idea is actually something Trump himself has proposed in the past.
In my next term, we will build a great Iron Dome,
very much like Israel has, but even better.
We're going to build the greatest dome of them all.
Building a wall and a dome?
Man, Trump wants to stop illegal aliens on the ground and in the sky.
In fact, some theorize these drones are the first part of Trump and Elon Musk
creating an Iron Dome themselves.
However, that seems unlikely based on how Trump is reacting to this news.
He says the public deserves to know the truth,
and he even suggested shooting the drones down, since sightings are now reported nationwide.
I don't think Trump would actively encourage people to destroy one of his own aerial projects.
Except, of course, a Trump piñata.
I'm not sure if he's behind these actual items for sale,
but I'd almost be more surprised if he wasn't.
Speaking of Trump, if you haven't already over the past 9 years,
Trump and the CEO of SoftBank, a Japanese multinational investment company,
have announced that SoftBank will invest $100 billion in AI infrastructure,
expected to create 100,000 American jobs.
SoftBank, which is oddly neither a bank nor soft,
invests heavily in tech and actually invested $50 billion in America during Trump's first term.
While it fulfilled its promise then, it's unclear if it will be able to this time,
as $100 billion is more than its entire market cap.
So what would make this company invest so heavily, potentially even beyond its means,
to work with Trump in building AI?
I bet it's his unwavering commitment to the technology,
as showcased with this actual image Trump shared on Truth Social.
This is clearly what AI was meant for.
And after the break, another government shutdown.
Again.
Welcome back.
Stop me if you've heard this one before.
Multiple times a year.
For the entirety of your adult life,
the government is on the verge of a shutdown if it can't pass a spending bill.
This time, the deadline was for December 20th.
Luckily, Congress was able to strike a bipartisan deal to avoid this.
Unluckily, Trump and Elon Musk have been heavily criticizing the spending bill
on their respective social media platforms, and calling on Republicans to not accept it.
They're upset because the bill is 1500 pages, and they're demanding a new streamlined bill.
Is Doge already having an effect?
Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
was in Capitol Hill this week to have sit-down discussions
with Senators ahead of votes on whether or not he'll be confirmed for the position.
I imagine, given how polarizing a figure RFK Jr. is, this must have been a test of his stamina.
Which he probably welcomed, since he ain't afraid of a little cardio.
While Kennedy was doing that, the New York Times and several other
mainstream corporate media outlets reported that Kennedy's lawyer,
Aaron Seary, who's helping Kennedy review candidates for top positions
at the Department of Health and Human Services, asked the FDA to revoke approval of the polio
vaccine. What? Kennedy's close associate is trying to get rid of the polio vaccine?
This guy is an anti-vaccine nutjob! At least, that's how the headlines all make it sound.
What actually happened is Seary filed a petition to the FDA back in 2022
to temporarily withdraw the vaccine until placebo-controlled trials can be performed.
And he did it not as some kind of personal vaccine vendetta,
but on behalf of the Informed Consent Action Network.
They're an advocacy group that questions the medical industry and demands more transparency
from them. So he's not calling for an outright ban on the vaccine. Neither is his client.
His client just wants more rigorous testing and more information made available to the public.
While the shot version of the polio vaccine is the only one administered in America,
the oral version has a rare side effect of causing polio.
And this is actually the cause of more new polio cases in Africa
than catching it from the virus in the wild.
And that was reported by the Associated Press, not NoJab.net or something.
Of course, RFK's association with Seary has created a lot of controversy.
Incoming New York Congressman George Latimer says Kennedy's vaccine policies
could defy settled science.
Because that's totally how science works. It just gets settled.
Also, given everything that's happened during Covid,
using the term settled science is absolutely going to make people trust this politician more.
So Seary is seen as a crazy anti-vaxxer while he claims he just wants more transparency.
But what does RFK Jr. think? For what it's worth,
Oklahoma Senator Mark Wayne Mullins said Kennedy told him he 100% supports the polio vaccine.
And RFK seemed to indicate this himself.
Do you support it?
Yeah, I support it.
As did incoming President Trump.
But I'm a big believer in the polio vaccine.
So it seems like the polio vaccine isn't going anywhere, at least for now.
And speaking of things that aren't good for you,
in a recent survey, two-thirds of 12th graders and 80% of 10th graders
surveyed said they've abstained from drinking, smoking, and marijuana in the past 30 days.
Wow, you mean to tell me that most teens, when asked by an adult,
say they don't commit any illegal activity? What a shock and a relief.
According to Reuters, Trump's transition team is recommending rolling back
Biden administration support for electric vehicles and charging stations.
As well as strengthening measures to block cars and components from China.
A few weeks ago, while visiting the Amazon,
Biden said his climate agenda couldn't be reversed.
It's like Trump heard that and said, challenge accepted.
It doesn't look like there's much Biden can do to stop Trump from undoing these policies,
especially since Republicans will have control of the House and the Senate.
And considering there are only a few weeks left in his presidency,
Biden right now is looking like a mallard with a fanny pack.
That, my friends, is one lame duck.
Speaking of Biden—something you'll have to get used to not hearing me say over the next 4 years—
former FBI informant Alexander Smirnov pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about a fabricated
bribe scheme involving Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
So that's it, then. The Bidens did nothing wrong.
And Joe was correct to pardon his son, right? Hunter did nothing wrong.
The laptop was Russian disinformation.
Matt just imagined all his drama.
Well, not so fast.
Even if Smirnov did lie, the laptop is still very real.
And while Smirnov says he lied to the authorities about this specific shady business dealing,
there are other separate potential shady business dealings
the Bidens may have been involved in.
And they're being investigated for it.
The House Oversight Committee claims that the president
interacted with nearly all of his son's foreign business associates,
despite stating he never did.
And the House Ways and Means Committee claims there are mountains of evidence
showing Joe Biden was complicit in Hunter's alleged influence peddling scheme.
Which I'm sure everyone would like to see.
And Politico reports that many of Joe Biden's closest staffers and advisors
also worked as his brother and his son's business associates,
despite claiming he's not involved with his family's business.
For what it's worth, this week Biden actually came out against corruption,
and said elected officials shouldn't benefit from their positions.
I don't know how you look your constituents in the eye
and know because the job they gave you gave you an inside track to make more money.
I think we should be changing the law.
Nobody in the Congress should be able to make money in the stock market
while they're in the Congress.
Wow, it's nice to see Biden finally speak up on this topic and stick to his principles.
Either that, or this was one final middle finger to Nancy Pelosi.
Either way, principles.
So it appears that just because the Bidens have been exonerated from this one accusation,
it doesn't mean they're innocent of potential other shady dealings.
Or guilty, for that matter.
Nothing has been proven concretely yet.
So even with Smirnoff pleading guilty, the investigations could be ongoing.
For the Bidens, this remains a more obnoxious situation than this one.
