Although optimism is essential to the success of the agricultural and agri-food sectors,
it is necessary to demonstrate a good dose of realism in our complex and changing world.
The sector has made considerable progress, but it is confronted with an increase in risks.
The strategic framework for elaborate agriculture 25 years ago has not evolved with the sector.
Although there may be a consensus on the need to bring improvements,
the sector is too comfortable with short-term status.
The report of the EPA on agri-food risks calls for a global plan to manage risks and support the sector's growth.
To move forward, leading parties must recognize the challenges with the current approach,
commit to acting and working in collaboration to find solutions.
There is no simple solution to the sector's challenges,
but better policies and better results will result from a dialogue and a debate within the agri-food sector.
