A Tour of our 2023 Toyota Tundra and Flatbed Four Wheel Camper. In the tour we cover the truck, camper, flatbed, and all the other customization that went into this truck as well as our interior living space. We're very happy with hoe the truck turned out and can't wait for all the adventures it'll take us on. Stay tuned for a build mini series coming out soon that will dive into the "why" of this build as well as the nitty gritty details of the build process!
One small correction to the video: The new Four Wheel Camper Thermal Pack doesn't technically have a "R value". However, it has made a massive difference in temperature management.
So we built a new rig. After four and a half years of living in a Toyota Tundra and flatbed
four-wheel camper, we realized that we were ready for a little bit of an update
Tundra TRD Off-Road with a Norweld flatbed tray that was all put together by our dear friends
over at Mainline Overland. Then we added a flatbed four-wheel camper. All right, that's just the
overview. Now let's get into some of the details. Starting here on the passenger side of the truck,
we added EvoCourse wheels and Toyo Open Country RT tires. Additionally, we have a full Dobson
suspension and airbags that we added to the rear. Wanting a little bit more braking power,
we added a big brake kit from Power Brakes. We decided to stick with a Norweld flatbed because
we love the versatility of their exterior storage. We have four exterior bins, two on this side,
two on the driver's side, as well as an auxiliary water tank and water spit kit. We decided to go
with another flatbed four-wheel camper because we love the interior storage space that it has.
Storage is king, and it also has an incredible layout. However, we will circle back to all of
that once we move inside. While we're here, on the outside we have an awning, a propane cabinet,
and exterior down lighting, as well as an amber light. Here at the rear of the truck is home to
some of my favorite modifications in this new build. First being, in the flatbed tray, we have
this absolutely massive drawer. It's incredible, and it stores a ton of stuff for us. Additionally,
we were able to migrate all of our parking and blind spot monitoring sensors into the flatbed.
We get to keep all of those features, which is great because we drive a big truck around.
This is also where we keep our max tracks, nice and easy for whenever we need them.
Here on the front end of the truck, we did a surprising number of modifications. The first
being is we cut it. We cut it to here. The reason why we did that is it gives us a better approach
angle, but it also accommodates for our Addictive Desert Designs front bumper. Inside of that front
bumper, we have integrated lighting and a come-up winch. In an effort to remove all possible chrome
from the front end of this truck, we installed a TRD Pro front grille. Then, to narrow the gap
between the top of our cab and the bottom of the camper, we installed a roof rack.
Before we move along, I wanted to make mention of what we have going on on the roof. We have
our permanently mounted RedArc solar panel, our Yakima roof rack system, as well as Starlink,
which is permanently mounted and hardwired into our electrical system.
Welcome home. All right, starting where I am sitting right now at the back of the camper,
this is our dinette slash office. This area also becomes an additional bed.
Underneath each of these seats is a massive storage compartment that goes all the way down
to the floor. The area in between the two is also another storage area, and we added two bookshelves
down there to house our small book collection. Our kitchen, which is on the driver's side of
the truck, is home to our two-burner stove, our sink with hot water, our refrigerator,
propane heater, as well as a ton of storage cabinets. On the passenger side of the truck,
we have our massively upgraded power system. We have 405 amp hours of Dakota lithium batteries,
which is double what we had before, and then we went from a 300-watt inverter to a 1,500-watt
RedArc inverter. To monitor and control our entire power system, we have the RedArc RedVision,
which also connects to an app on our phone. Facing the front of the truck, the part that kind of
sticks out over the cab is our queen-size bed. We have a Hess mattress and Aeronaut blanket,
which is a combination that has made for the most comfortable bed we have ever had.
Underneath the bed is our favorite feature of the flatbed four-wheel campers. This is all
under bed storage, and that space is absolutely invaluable to us. Underneath me is Spice cabinet
and our cat's litter box, because she needs a bathroom too. Over here, this is something that
is new in this camper. This is four-wheel camper's new thermal pack, which has a higher R-value,
and we have noticed a substantial difference in management of both heat and cold.
Welcome to the cab. So, it might as well be a spaceship in here. It is so much more
technologically advanced than our last 2019 Tundra, and some of the big technological advances
is here in the screen. We have CarPlay, and it makes navigation really easy with all of our
various navigation apps, nice and clear. We also added here in the center console a safe, just so
we can keep any of our important documents for border crossings. Here in the back, we removed
our seats, and TerraQuest built us this very large locking cabinet, which is home to all of our camera
gear, among many other things. We're calling this truck about 95% done. There's still a few odds and
ends that we need to take care of before we can call it fully complete. A few of those things are
adding a fairing to help with fuel efficiency, adding some form of gas storage, as well as an
exterior trash storage solution of some kind. Our last truck took us far, but I think that this one
is going to take us even farther. We are so proud of what we have built, and very appreciative to
all of our brand partners that helped bring this project to life. If you enjoyed this tour, and you
would like to see more of the build process, come on back. We're going to have a series of videos
roll out that document the entire build process in detail. Thank you so much for watching, and we'll
see you down the road.
