This is where I saw you standing.
I was in New York working in ministry full-time,
and I got to a point when the Lord said,
it's time for you to go back to California,
which is my hometown.
So God had been doing just so much redemption
in my heart at this time,
and He was telling me,
I'm preparing you for marriage.
So I started watching so many
God Writer love story videos on YouTube.
So I could just fill up with hope and excitement
for who God had for me.
And I heard so many crazy wild stories.
So I told God,
I want you to write me the most wild love story.
I want it to blow people's minds.
So right before I was leaving New York,
I kept feeling it in my spirit
that my husband was on his way,
that I was going to come to him
in the next season of my life.
I had gotten to a place of peace and acceptance.
I wrote in my journal three months before I met Ross,
Lord, I know that you're telling me
my husband's on his way.
I know I'm getting closer to him.
So I was sitting at a gas station on the ground
in Lafayette, Louisiana.
I was actually waiting to score some drugs.
And it just so happens how God would work.
God doesn't allow my drug dealer to show up that day.
Out of every day that he decides to not show up
and not come,
God sends Kaylee instead.
Kaylee's on a road trip from New York to San Antonio
and she's driving through Lafayette, Louisiana
and just so happens to stop at the gas station
where I'm sitting at, waiting at, to fill up gas.
And she sees me sitting on the ground
and decides to come up and talk to me.
And me being homeless for the past year,
I pretty much know, like, okay,
this is a nice person who's going to come
and, you know, speak to me, say something nice
or, you know, buy me some food or something like that.
And that's when I had my first encounter with Kaylee.
We sit down on the sidewalk
where it felt like a couple hours.
It was just a long time.
And I remember one of the first things
that God highlighted to me as I was talking to him
He told me to ask him about his tattoo.
He had a tattoo on his arm
and I asked him, what is, tell me about your tattoo.
And he said it's Proverbs 3, 5,
Trust the Lord with all your heart.
Immediately she starts talking to me,
saying that she felt God calling her
to come and speak to me
and to come and just give me some encouraging words
about everything, about life, about God,
me sharing my story with her
and how I ended up where I was
and her even sharing me testimony about herself
and just the amazing things of God.
And it was the first time in a long time
that someone had, well actually the first time
since I had been homeless
that someone actually came and sat down
and really talked to me
and wanted to get to know me
and share the good news
and share God with me.
You know, God was so present with us
and God just really wanted him to be encouraged
and was showing me, Ross, that's God's child.
That's something that kept getting told to me
in my spirit at that time,
that's God's child, that's God's child.
And when he had told me he's from Austin
and wanted to go back to Austin,
I knew I was driving through there,
that's when the Holy Spirit spoke through me
and offered him to come with me.
And when that happened,
I knew God was talking through me
because, you know, sometimes when he does those things
your mind is trying to catch up, like,
okay God, I know what you're doing here.
So I told him, let's pray
and I'm going to go use the restroom.
I went to the bathroom and I called my best friend Nikki.
It was my pastor's wife.
And I told her, Nikki,
there's this crazy thing that God's doing.
He just spoke through me
and we need to pray that if it's in God's will
for this young man to come with me
that he will increase in strength and courage and obey.
One of the verses that always, like, stuck out to me
that, like, it still makes me cringe to this day
is about the dog returning to his vomit
because that was me, you know.
But yet God is still here to show me grace
and compassion and forgiveness.
But at the same time, when I met Kaylee,
the word that he spoke to me was,
it's now or never, this is it.
You're not, you don't get another chance of, you know,
doing what you did and coming back
and all this back and forth.
He literally said, now or never, come and follow me.
You know what you need to do.
You know what you're supposed to do.
It's time to do it.
So I came out of the bathroom
and Ross was quick to say, let's get in the car,
threw his paraphernalia out,
and then we had, I think, about three hours of drive time.
And we didn't know what was going to happen
or it was truly walking by faith, not by sight.
But because I knew that God was moving
and it was God's will for him to come,
I get really excited when I know God's doing something.
I was filled with joy.
And for the three hours,
I was just pouring God's word and love into him.
The first stop we make is at Walmart
and, you know, he spends $500 on me
on a whole new wardrobe, a new cell phone,
literally, like, helping me start a whole brand new life.
As soon as I got to my uncle's house,
my dad's youngest brother was there.
It was pretty amazing because he was there
with arms wide open to embrace me.
So it was very, very touching and very emotional
and just very grateful knowing that he was there.
Over time, we dropped Ross off in Austin
and I headed to San Diego.
We stayed in contact and we were talking on the phone
all the time for hours on end on the phone
just talking about God, praying together,
and studying the Bible.
And the Bible says that out of the abundance of our heart,
our mouth speaks.
And being able to communicate with him over the phone,
I was hearing into his heart.
I was hearing his story, his testimony,
and truly getting to know him.
And after a while, I could tell that we were starting
to develop feelings for one another,
but both of us kept putting the brakes on.
And I wasn't exactly sure what was happening
except for I could tell God's presence
was just so tangible between us.
My intuition and my gut was telling me that,
hey, she's catching feelings for me
and that I'm catching feelings for her too.
But immediately, the enemy, the devil,
telling me, like, that can't happen.
There's no way.
Why in the world would this wonderful, amazing,
beautiful, well-to-do, good Christian girl
who's got her stuff together in life
want to have anything to do with, you know,
a homeless drug addict?
Like, it just didn't make sense.
I couldn't wrap my head around that thought.
We decided to fast from each other for nine days
because we couldn't understand exactly what was going on,
but we knew something was,
and we didn't want to be out of God's will
and didn't want to do anything of our own emotions or desires.
And that's when God spoke to me and said,
that's your husband.
Told me then that she was my wife,
that, in fact, we were in love with each other
and that it was him all along.
Wow, I'm in love with this man, his heart, his soul.
Really, this love story is a testament
to God's love for his people.
God loves the sinner, the prodigal son.
You will never be too far from God's reach.
And even though we have a pretty wild testimony,
like Ross said, the most amazing testimony
is truly God's heart for his people.
