Hiya what's crack it's Erin and Devin and today we are going to tell you something that we've had
a lot of people ask. We are going to tell you how we met. So buckle up we're about to spill the tea.
We've had each other on snapchat since August 23rd 2013 since we were 14 and 16 years old.
It's 11 years. Yeah it'll be 11 years this August. So if you went back just 10 years ago and told us
that we'd been marrying each other next year. No way. We would be so mind blown. I would be like
no. No chance. So we have been together for four years now. We were long distance for a while and
we are now engaged. It's definitely not the usual way that people meet. So we're gonna jump way back
probably around 16 years ago being honest. Maybe 15. I was watching my favourite tv show which is
what I mentioned in my last video The Vampire Diaries and I loved it so much that I was on
tweeting about it. I just so happened to find another account that was talking about The Vampire
Diaries and we shared the same opinion and so we were chit-chatting about The Vampire Diaries a lot
and this was way back right. This is a long time ago where FaceTime wasn't a thing yet and so me
and this Gerd who was Canadian started to text a lot and we used to Skype and that was Devin's
Yes. Me and her became friends and we kept in touch for like 10 years. Like a very long time
and there was a lot of back and forths of like meeting up and we would just kind of catch up
and like pull each other in on our lives basically. We were like long distance like pen pals. Yeah.
I knew of Erin slightly just because of that I guess. I would Snapchat you every Saint Patrick's
and you would ask me what my plans are and what I was doing. Yeah. So yeah we knew of each other
but like distantly. Yeah and I always fancied her but she didn't know that. Way too young. Yeah.
Whenever I'd be like on Skype I remember telling you like my fork and knife joke.
That's how young we were right. That I was not allowed to swear. I was not allowed to curse
and so I told them about like the funny way that me and my sister would do it when we were out for
dinner because we were allowed to curse. We would say where's me fork and knife as in like my fork
and knife but it sounded like a swear and I remember saying that to them like where's me
fork and knife and they completely got it wrong. Yeah. Where they were laughing at me saying
me fork and knife instead of my. Yeah. So they would say where's me fork and me knife. Me fork
and me knife. And just miss the whole joke. Yeah. But that's how young we were is that we weren't
allowed to curse. Yeah. So I was planning on going over to Canada to finally meet her in August of
2020 but then Covid hit. So I obviously was like stuck at home. It was like the very start of the
pandemic where everyone was just like FaceTiming everyone. Yeah I think that was like March. March.
Yeah. So March. Yeah. So during March I like started FaceTiming your sister a lot. Right. And
we were just like drinking on the phone and just like playing games because we were so bored there
was nothing to do. I remember the night I came home from I don't know what I was doing probably
hanging out with my buddies or something and I seen that my sister was on FaceTime with you.
I said oh is that Erin? I just knew right away that she was fancying me so. No it was the way
you said my name. You're like is that Erin? Like and I hadn't seen you in so many years. I remember
saying to him like jeez like you look so different. You look so like much older now. Yeah. And then I
was very flirty. I did not be subtle at all. I feel like eventually we will tell you what I said.
It was nothing bad or anything but it was just very funny and I feel like that's probably something
that we're going to talk about like on our wedding day. Yeah. So I think we'll hold it until then. I
was definitely like taken off guard by what you said. I was like jeez I snapchatted you first I
think. Yeah you texted me or you snapchatted me I think actually. It was like two days later
because I remember the next day I was talking to Emma and I was like Emma I think I think he's
going to reject me. I haven't heard anything. And then the next day you stopped me and I was like
yeah thank god and if I didn't do that we wouldn't be here. My first move was so bold so I don't know
if I could have made another one. Yeah we started talking every day or whatever snapchatting back
and forth and I think I would be on the I would be on the FaceTime calls with my sisters and you
know with you because you know it was during COVID. Everybody's in lockdown so we were just
always on the phone or whatever. Yeah me and you weren't like one-on-one FaceTiming from the start.
No no not at the start and then like you know shortly after that we started talking one-on-one
and we were on the phone all night for hours. So I remember the first time that he texted me out
of nowhere and was like do you want to FaceTime me like one-on-one like right now and I remember
I was literally like lying in my bed because yous are five hours behind and the panic that I had
where I was like yeah of course just give me one minute and I was just like rushing around like
trying to brush my hair trying to get myself together honestly and then my man started like
hey you know playing it cool yeah. Who are you? What's your name again? From there on out we kind
of just started talking every night. During COVID there wasn't much else to do so. Oh so it's just
keeping you from being bored. Yeah you know. I see how it is. Originally when we started off
we did not want to be in a relationship because we thought long distance is so hard.
I was just supposed to go to Canada for August and then I was going to be leaving again. I remember
we were thinking like oh her flight got cancelled she's not going to be able to come here anymore
you know maybe when we were chatting we were like oh maybe we should just end it you know. We were
like we don't want to get attached yeah because our plan is it's a summer fling you know so we're
like yeah let's we agreed let's end it. Let's end it that night. Not even 24 hours. Not even 24 hours
and Aaron broke. Well you said if I hadn't a case you would have caved. Yeah of course I would have.
You know what you came crawling back. I was like you know what I'm too attached for next time.
Then we were like okay so we're in a long distance relationship and we hadn't even met yet
and long distance was hard. A year and a half we were long distance. Waiting until we met
it was tough because of the time zone difference. Oh yeah that was the worst. Right but I feel like
we were lucky. We were very lucky that it was during Covid because no one was going outside.
It was fine for me to be on Canadian time and just have a messed up like sleeping schedule
from everyone else. Yeah yeah that's fair. She would stay up to like five in the morning you know
and it'd be only like midnight you know Canadian time. And the sun would be coming up for me. Yeah
I remember those days. We were probably talking for a couple months and then I was like oh well
you know I'm gonna book my flight over instead you know now that yours is cancelled
and so Canada wasn't letting anybody in but Ireland was so I was able to fly into Dublin
from Toronto in that same August I guess. Yeah the August I was supposed to be over. Yeah
so I went over there by myself. That was like your first flight on your own. Yeah. And your first ever
like international flight and so then when we first like met each other face to face it was
at Dublin airport. Yes. And that was insane. I remember that. That was insane. That was so dramatic.
Remember when so we first seen each other and you ran after me right. Yeah. And I had my phone in my
pocket or in my hand or something and you like jumped in my arms and I just like threw my phone
somewhere. What happened? We like walked away. Yeah. He's like I jumped at you, you left at me
out like we walked away. Yeah. And then someone eventually came over to be like hey is this your
phone? Yeah. Thank god for that guy. That was so funny. It was so funny. And it was so mad because like
as soon as we seen each other it felt like we had just always seen each other. Yeah. Devon's first
time over here he stayed for like three weeks which was longer than he originally planned.
I think you left in the start of September. Yes. And then you came back again after Christmas.
Yeah it was like the 27th or something I think my flight was. And you were supposed to be here for
three weeks. Yeah. And that's when you stayed for six months. Yes. That was that was like the
height of COVID then though. That's funny. Yeah. The reason why was because you know in the midst of COVID
Canada released all these quarantine regulations. I would had to have stayed in a hotel
for like two weeks you know out of pocket. I had to pay thousands of dollars to stay in a hotel.
And it wasn't like that when he like left Canada. So they changed the rules when you got here. Yeah
plans changed. Yeah. And I remember like there would be so many advisors like don't travel right
now. Don't do it. Yeah. Who knows what's going to happen kind of thing. I remember all that. And you
were just like it'll be grand. Yeah. And I remember going to the airport and not a soul being there.
It was so weird. I had the whole airplane to myself. Now you get on those flights and you
be shoulder to shoulder. Yeah. It was not the time to travel. Do not get us wrong. It was not the time
to travel at all. Definitely not. We were just young and in love. Yeah. He stayed for six months.
He just like had a life here even though he had like no clothes with you. Yeah. We had to like
buy new clothes and stuff. While he was here I applied for my visa to move to Canada. He ended
up leaving in May. He left Ireland and I ended up moving to Canada then that July. And so that was
my first time ever going on to Canada was to move there. I took the flight over on my own and then
you came to pick me up from the airport. Yeah. And when you picked me up do you remember like the like
tornado? Oh my god yeah. That was insane. I was like I've never seen a tornado in my life. I step off the
plane the sky's like red. Yeah. It was like just a crazy storm driving through you know. Insane.
Insane. I've never even seen you know much like it either. But I thought this must be normal here.
I wasn't really like. Yeah. I was just like that looks cool. Yeah. I was a little afraid but not really.
And it's like a four hour drive home so it's like. Yeah. I was trying to keep it cool but in my head
I'm just freaking out never not used to driving in this kind of storm. Whereas I was sitting there
being like oh this must happen every day here. Yeah. You know the norm. I ended up living in
Canada for just under three years and then if you've been following along then you know the
health stuff happened and we decided to move back. But it was always our plan to move back.
Right. Like we told everybody that from like the second I got there. Yeah. That eventually we would
move home. We weren't planning on that being so soon. Definitely not. We were planning on staying
for at least another year. Yeah. Maybe another two. Yeah. And then everything just kind of sped it up
and so we are now living in Ireland. We've been back now for a few months and that's been a crazy
four years. And now we're getting married next August. After you know a year or so I was going
through our snapchat and I seen like one of the first messages on my phone you know between the
two of us. I just remember I was like I was like 14 years old and I was flirting with her. So
obviously flirting. Yeah yeah. And I was shutting it down. Yeah. As soon as COVID hit and I see
me that time clearly I was the one doing flirting. Yeah definitely. The tables turned. I was working
my game for a long time and it finally worked. That's why. Alright that's pretty much us summed
up into one video. We could go on about that for a long time. Our journey has been crazy but. Yeah.
We are looking forward to what our journey looks like going forward. I can't even imagine the twists
and turns that's going to happen if I'm being honest. Yeah. We do want anyone that's watching
this that is in a long distance relationship to know that you can have your happy ending. Like
you can get there. A lot of people kind of doubt long distance relationships and they are difficult.
They are hard but if it's worth it it absolutely will work out for you. Don't let the negative
opinions get to you. And we should do a video on how we made it happen kind of thing. Yeah how we
got through being long distance. Yeah. That's a good idea. If you made it to the end of this video
comment a wee globe emoji down below so we know that you've traveled the world with us. You've
got the end of the story with us. And thank you so much for watching and I'm sure we will see you very soon. Bye bye.
