My name is Stéphane and in June 2017, on the day of my 23rd birthday, I left my home alone to travel.
I decided to live my dreams without waiting for anyone to come with me.
I bought a bicycle, a tent and left Paris in June to cycle to Stockholm.
Straight away, I've loved the feeling of freedom, the possibility to stop anywhere I wanted,
I've learned to listen to my desires and live upon them. I've learned to change my plans,
to deal with the unexpected, to live only from one day to the next.
I've left aside the comfort of a house for the adventurous task of finding a free camping place
every night. The more I cycled, the more I wanted to continue. The first 2000 kilometers to Stockholm
proved me I could do it, showed me how much I loved it. There was no way I was going back.
So I added more and more kilometers to my journey. Once in Finland, I anticipated that winter would
slowly come and decided to go south, as I left with only a summer equipment.
That's how I ended up in Greece, cycling all the way from Finland.
I've cycled through the heat, the cold, the sun, the rain, the snow, on asphalt road,
on mud tracks. I've cycled up and down, in mountains, on flat roads, through forests,
with lots of traffic. There were some amazing moments, some hard ones, but good or bad,
they've all taught me something that made me richer. I've never felt more alive than when
on the road. I've never felt happier than living that simple life of waking up every morning,
cycling towards the unknown, finding food, water and a place to sleep at night. I've learned to
know myself a bit more, to give some sense to my life. I've learned to enjoy life and live.
I've discovered that the world is a good place. When you cycle alone, you're unavoidably vulnerable
and this trip made me realize that people don't take advantage of that. Instead,
they are willing to help, they are curious, respectful and simply kind. The world is far
from being the dangerous place we think it is and I've been lucky enough to experience it.
First alone in Europe, through this incredible journey, then with Martin in Africa.
