At the moment I'm on the east side and east side looks like too populated.
I feel danger because there are too many scooters in big city.
So I'm avoiding on the east coast and I'm going to cycle on the mountains.
This is a very quiet farming area.
Enjoy my shade.
It's very hot area and I can see all the farms like banana trees and things.
She was waiting to let me know where to go.
Very kind grandma auntie.
Eat, eat first.
Here you are.
Noodles.
Look, I wear so many clothes.
Look, it's delicious.
Delicious.
Thank you.
Eat it.
Bye bye.
Thank you. Bye bye.
Bye bye.
For an experience.
This is the reason I love the small road.
And yeah, this is actually very very small road that this road will end somewhere.
And I have to take the very very small road and hopefully it's not under construction.
If it's under construction, I have to go back all the way down.
So I just cross my finger.
Looks aboriginal museum.
This is very small village.
Now I need to find a place to sit because my shade is getting longer.
When your shade is getting longer, it's time to stop.
Because when the shade is slowly gone, that's not good.
Oh, it's nice park for camping, no?
I can camp here, isn't it?
I don't care because it's small village.
Tiny teeny village.
Just got water from the tap and then new water from the store.
So I'm ready for shower, drinking.
After searching 20 minutes like bush and then town, I got this place.
This is very visible.
There's bridge that they can see.
But this is small tiny village.
Very close each other.
It'll be alright.
I'm going to camp here.
This is exactly I was looking for and I'm going to put the tent.
It'll be alright.
And there I can see building.
The town village is right there.
If I have a problem, I can run to the town and ask help.
Let's pitch a tent.
I come for this camping spot.
Amazing camping site.
I can say this.
When I survive next morning without any problem.
But so far, I'm sure everything will be alright tonight.
No one will bother me.
If they come, probably they want to give me some food.
Everything will be alright.
Good morning.
I slept pretty well.
I didn't get that nervous.
Because I couldn't feel safe.
I don't know.
Sometimes I feel safe.
Sometimes I get nervous.
It depends on where I am.
What I feel.
This is kind of end of the road.
Middle of the mountain.
Maybe I feel that I feel safe.
And the view is so peaceful.
Definitely.
This was one of the best camping spot I ever had.
So good.
I have some breakfast.
At the village.
This is kind of brunch.
So good that in Taiwan I can have breakfast all the time.
This is such a big school in this small village.
Probably all the students in every different village around here come to this school.
Let's go out.
The sun is quite intense.
You know what's the really scary thing on the mountain?
It's downhill.
Because I have to go up again.
This is the road I gotta go.
And it looks steep.
And even on the Google map it doesn't come out.
That I have to keep tube in.
There is no road.
Doesn't show still yet.
Yet.
And here finally come out.
This is the road only come out when I'm zooming many times.
It's obviously very steep hill.
On the camera, when it's gentle, it looks kind of flat.
When it looks uphill, it's very steep.
And this is really steep hill.
And there is no any other road.
This road going to the end.
This is the only road connect the mountain.
I have to climb up the mountain.
I thought all the road in Taiwan is not that steep.
But this is steep.
Because it doesn't show up on the map easily.
But I don't want to go all the way down.
I'm going up.
It doesn't matter how long it takes.
Probably two days it will take to go up the mountain.
Let's go.
Wow, the view is...
It's like 1 km.
We climb up 100 m of sea level.
Which is quite tense.
And probably I have to climb up 300 m more.
In the beginning uphill was really steep.
So I have to do zigzag.
But hopefully now it's getting better.
So I climb up down from down there to here.
That's camping site.
And that's camping site.
And there are many camping sites around here.
Because you see that this nature is amazing.
What is funny thing is that the road is going to the end over there.
And there is a 7-Eleven.
Usually 7-Eleven doesn't come up like this kind of when there is small village.
I think this is a very touristic spot during summer vacation probably.
Also maybe on the weekend.
That's why there is a 7-Eleven.
And I think this is actually quite nice place to camp.
There is a roof and there is water.
What a nice place to camp.
And then look down all the views of the farm, river, mountain.
Beautiful area.
Now it's getting easier.
Not that steep.
And the view is amazing.
But it's kind of smoky or foggy.
It has been for a few days that the air is not that clear.
I don't know what makes it so smoky.
But still it's beautiful.
It's so good that it's a small quiet road.
I can use a speaker to listen to audio book.
I just started listening this year.
Wow, this hill is sometimes difficult.
Sometimes easy.
My dear friends on the road.
Looks like they just fixed this road.
Some of the Taiwanese roads are broken because of the earthquake.
Some of them are blocked because they are fixing.
But this road is good for now.
This morning it was really hot.
Now it's quite chill.
And I'm going to downhill.
Where are you from?
I'm from Cambodia.
Are you Korean?
Yes, I'm Korean.
I'm from Chiayi.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
This is a small tribe village.
How do you know there is a food?
I'm going to check the condition and if it's a reasonable price, I might stay.
Because it looks a nice small village.
It's more than what I expected.
I just go camping.
Actually, I like to camp in the mountain.
But this looks an interesting village.
Wow, they have a sugar cane.
Hello.
So this is a room I got.
It's $1,320.
It's a discount.
And the view is so good.
The only reason I got this room was when I stayed in this village.
I was bitten by a mosquito.
Just once.
I was guessing if I camp in the mountain, I'll be bitten so bad.
Oh, there's a mosquito.
I just got it.
This is the air condition.
Ta-da.
And the view is good.
All good.
The lady was very generous at the homestay.
And we talked in translation.
Very nice person.
Now, going into another small road.
This is such a weird end of nowhere.
It's burning.
I don't know how come it's burning.
Why are you burning me?
I've never seen like this before.
But probably I can kill that fire.
The view.
Look at that.
It's near the power line.
I don't have enough water.
And actually, no one reported on.
No one reported on.
I'm going.
No any smoke coming out.
Okay, nothing burned.
I'm done.
I'm going up here.
Okay, bye-bye.
Be safe.
This is a nice small village.
Entering another village.
Hopefully, I can have lunch here.
It's a bit bigger size of a village.
Nice supermarket.
The lady helped me that the restaurant guy is sleeping.
This is kind of my lunch until next restaurant.
In this village, there's a very special thing that there's garbage bin.
In Taiwan, they have a very special garbage system
that the garbage car passing evening.
And you have to come out on the street and then give them the garbage.
And if you miss the garbage time,
you keep your garbage in your home.
But here, they have a garbage bin system station,
which is really easy.
Here in Taiwan, it's very difficult
because there's no garbage bin on the public
because of their special system.
If they put the garbage bin on the street,
people who miss the garbage time
would throw their house garbage on the street.
Garbage bin.
So they don't put the garbage bin on the street.
But here, there's a garbage station.
So easy for me to throw things.
Okay, on the road.
The road condition is keep changing.
Now, it's kind of flat.
657 meters.
About sea level.
I think I spent like 40 minutes to kill the fire.
It's frustrating that I was cycling all day
going up and now going down.
And it means that I have to go very, very much high tomorrow.
Oh, look at this downhill.
I don't want to go downhill because I have to climb up again.
Yeah, I can eat something here.
This is a traditional Aboriginal barbecue.
And rice on bamboo.
Sticky, chewy.
Flying bat.
And this one.
It's a famous food in Aboriginal area.
Okay, let's try.
It's sweet.
It's good.
It's a flying bat.
It's soft.
And there's several seasonings.
So it's a bit spicy, sweet, and smoky.
It's quite good.
Wow.
Virtually many bones.
Now I understand.
I saw this flying bat picture before in the other village.
They're selling the meat and they eat that.
So this is another village.
Sun is about to go down.
I can camp here.
There's a park.
It's getting dark.
And I think there's another village
coming up.
Definitely I just set up tent.
Because here is cliff everywhere.
So there's not any
space beside.
Just a little more
and there's village.
I see there's some light.
Yes, there are.
There is some light.
In the village,
I found people drink more.
In Taipei,
I hardly see people drink.
So here they drink.
And in Taipei, if you go to the bar,
it's likely most of them are foreigner.
Here I came at the camp.
What a day.
It was really hard uphill.
Going up and up and up and up.
Let's have a tour around.
And supermarket.
There are only a few houses.
Maybe 10 houses.
And then,
that's the road
where I camp here.
Sometimes it's better to put the tent
where everyone can see.
In Taiwan, I do it.
In general,
I try to hide
or I ask local people.
But,
it's alright here.
Me, I'm lucky.
I got a piece of land for tonight.
I just set up tent here.
It's kind of next road but
plenty of space.
And if I want to go toilet,
maybe I just walk down.
Surprisingly, there's no mosquitoes.
It's so blast.
Actually, I would say
I keep bitten down there.
So now I feel so free.
It's so good.
It's not that cold.
How come no mosquitoes?
I appreciate anyway.
I think I'm going to sleep well.
Good morning.
Car and scooter keep passing.
No one really ever cares me.
Yesterday night, I saw
police car in the supermarket.
They didn't care me either.
I feel like
I'm a ghost. No one cares.
We see you
but we don't care.
Very peaceful.
Dead road. I just came up.
Today, all the way
just up. Probably today,
I'll cycle up 1000 meters.
I'm super hungry.
Breakfast and lunch.
Savory beef soup.
Have a great day.
What's happening here is that
I'm going to meet
main road
on this mountain.
So far, I was cycling
on the village road
for a few days.
This is main road.
Probably many cars passing.
