Bob Carr, the former highest-ranking diplomat of Australia, has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against the foreign minister of New Zealand. In a radio appearance, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters made various accusations against Carr, which the former Australian official claimed were defamatory.

An aide to Carr confirmed that he is, in fact, pursuing legal action.

As a result of the strict defamation rules in Australia and New Zealand, media organizations that had previously published or televised Peters's comments have now taken them down from their websites and social media platforms.

He made his strong verbal attack during a heated debate about whether New Zealand should join a defense technology agreement with Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Wellington is currently evaluating its potential participation in "pillar two" of the Aukus accord, which specifically pertains to the advancement of military technology such as drones, artificial intelligence, and hypersonic weapons.
