Reckless Mercedes-Benz hits 145 MPH during high speed pursuit w/Arkansas State Police - PIT Maneuver
Trooper's Report:
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at approximately 2:10 a.m., I was in the area of the Interstate 30 West Frontage Road near
Baseline Road. I was advised by Troop A Communication that the Little Rock Police Department was in pursuit of a reckless
driver in the area of Baseline Road and was requesting assistance.
At approximately 2:11 a.m., I observed the vehicle, a black Mercedes sedan, traveling at a high rate of speed, passing my
location. I activated my emergency lights and sirens and advised Troop A Communications that I would be in pursuit of the
vehicle as we entered Interstate 430 North. Speeds reached approximately 145 MPH as we made it to the 3 mile marker. I
attempted to position my unit for a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), but the suspect continued to maneuver in front of my unit
to prevent a TVI. As we approached the 4 mile marker my front bumper portion made contact with the rear bumper portion of
the suspect vehicle.
After contact was made with the suspect vehicle, I observed traffic ahead and began to back off the suspect vehicle until
passing the other motorist on the roadway. The suspect vehicle suddenly took the 4 exit ramp to Colonel Glenn Road, almost
losing control while navigating the exit ramp. The pursuit continued into the John Barrow area of Little Rock, with the vehicle
driving at high rates of speed through a residential area. As the vehicle attempted to turn onto 36th Street front John Barrow I
performed a TVI, with my front passenger bumper portion striking the rear driver portion of the suspect vehicle causing it to
partially rotate counter clockwise before the suspect vehicle reentered 36th Street. I then performed a final TVI at the
intersection of 36th and Malloy Street with the vehicle coming to rest near a landscaping wall.
The driver, later identified as Dajuan Ridgeway, exited the driver door and began to run on foot. I exited my patrol unit and
continued to my pursuit until I was able to detain the male subject behind a residence a few blocks from the suspect vehicle.
LRPD officers arrived on scene and assisting me in taking the suspect into custody. Mr. Ridgeway was transferred to their
custody where he was charged accordingly. Two unidentified passengers were observed exiting the vehicle after the TVI, but
LRPD officers were unable to locate them in the area.
The suspect vehicle was towed by Metro Towing. My unit sustained minor damage to the front passenger fender and was
towed by Walker Wrecker to Troop A.
