High Speed Pursuit: Mercedes-Benz attempts to flee Arkansas State Police at 117 MPH #pit #chase
Trooper's Report:
On 11/27/24 at approximately 2126 hours I, TRP. Trey Smith #415, initiated a traffic stop on a silver Mercedes-Benz C250 on Interstate 430 SB near mile marker 3. The reason for the stop was speeding
(106 MPH in a 65 MPH zone) and no proof of insurance on file.
When I initiated my lights and siren V1 turned off the vehicle lights and accelerated to 117 MPH. V1 slowed down while
approaching traffic near mile marker 1. I then approached the rear passenger side of V1 to perform a tactical vehicle
intervention (TVI). V1 brake checked but I was able to perform a successful TVI. The front portion of V1 struck the front
passenger side of my vehicle then ran off the right side of the roadway. I turned around and tried to pin V1 with the front of my
vehicle but V1 attempted to drive through the ditch. V1 was unable to continue so I got out of the vehicle and ordered the driver
Vincent Anderson out of the vehicle. Anderson seemed confused and wasn't listening to commands. Sgt. Tim
Callison #126 arrived on scene to assist. V1 began to roll backwards before coming to a stop. Anderson eventually complied
and got out of the vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident. I could smell the strong odor of intoxicants
emitting from his person and his eyes were watery. He submitted to a portable breath test (PBT) on scene which yielded a
result of 0.10.
I transported Anderson to Baptist Health Medical Center to be medically cleared. While at the hospital I conducted HGN and
observed lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation in both eyes, and onset
of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. After he was cleared I transported him to the Pulaski County Detention Center.
Anderson submitted to a BAC test but the first test was invalid. After a 20 minute wait time a second test was completed which
yielded a result of 0.07. This final result was at 0037 hours on 11/28/24 which was approximately three hours after the initial
incident.
Anderson was charged with the following:
