My dad studied here and went back to Hong Kong. So yeah, I was born Canadian basically
Yeah, well, I got I already got the the citizenship because of my dad. Yes. Yes. So my whole family was here
I came to Canada in 2000 for studies. I was continuing my high school education
So I just came by myself because my whole family was still in Hong Kong
I came first also in Markham because I got my some of my relatives here living in Markham
So the first year of after I came and I just looked in their house
So they were very kind enough to to to host me for that year
So I was able to complete my studies and then I was there for my last year of high school
So after after I came and then just gradually my younger brother and my mom. Oh, yeah also came
I went to University of Toronto to continue my
Education. So yeah, it was
Well, it's it to me. It was a totally different experience in terms of like a learning environment
Comparing here in Canada and to Hong Kong. It's I I think it's more like um, let's feeling less pressured
Especially when when when in terms of studies, so yeah to me
it's a little more more free and more and
But I I can actually make my own choice like to you to think of what what I would
Would love to study and what I would love to do after I graduate
So yeah, this is a totally different experience to a different feeling. I know what did you study? Oh, I am I
University I study a political science and history
So double major and I I honestly I didn't know a lot about politics
It was just a lot and back in back in the old days
I didn't have a chance to to to experience what it was like other than like reading news, right?
during my early years
Studies or actually after the first few years after I came to Canada
Language is still a major barrier. Even though I I did learn English and I back in Hong Kong and in Hong Kong
there are like two kinds of
Secondary schools when it's like in Chinese one is in English. I'm mainly in English
So even though I also well, there's a lot of chances that I have I'm exposed to English, but I still
Well, at least I'm the matter town. It was not there
So I really felt that I was kind of disconnected in terms of not just language
But also in cultural wise and I was trying hard to getting adapted into the the cultural environment
On one hand, but on the other hand, I found it really interesting
people in Canada
Didn't have much knowledge about like Asian countries, but like 20 plus years ago, right?
so I still remember when I came to Canada, I actually brought my
Musical instrument who's young because I was learning in Hong Kong one time
I was performing at the Christmas Gala at my school
So people actually well was surprised what I was playing and what that instrument was in Markham in my high school
Yes
Yeah
so so that was a very interesting and it was fun like performing in front of all other like a lot different like race
Different people different kinds of people they actually did that no idea what that is
There is what Chinese instrument is about and basically they never heard of a sound
So it was kind of fun that I was able to kind of bring something new to them
But on the other hand, it was still giving me like some kind of challenges when I was getting adapted to to there
There are the so-called mainstream culture like people here actually very into hockey's into outdoor sports
Which I was not actually a very sporty person overall. It was so it was a great experience. I love you in Canada
Yeah, so I guess we'll just talk more to people and usually well when when I will not just myself when people start
I'm started in a new place. They were just very scared of getting out of their comfort zone
So I guess the first step is to will probably just step out and if you're afraid to talk to people
You don't need to talk actually just go just just go anywhere
But by yourself just to experience or just to look and see how people do things how people talk and yeah
Sometimes I was afraid to to speak up as well when I was well when I was small
The most challenging part is to getting people willing to be interviewed. That's always the hard part
So yeah, I in my in my days of being a journalist
I used to do a lot of like as media scrums or any other like interviews like a
Inferring like strangers or like generally with the general public
So one of the things is that it's kind of hard to like in weather like this, right?
Kind of hard to bring on my belt and ask people to stop by listen to you and and talk to you on the mic
So and it really also depends on what what issue is that right? So if it's an easy one like Oh Christmas shopping
So I think people are a lot more easygoing like they were more willing to talk to you
But if it's more like a more political thing or more heavier topic
Yeah, obviously they didn't stop by and they won't be okay. I'm good. I'm good. Okay. So yeah
So this is what one of the most challenging times but also very very fun times
Yeah, when people were able or what people were or okay to to be interviewed by you. So you definitely was very happy
