61-year-old Jeff Bezos is enjoying his second marriage, and 55-year-old Lawrence is on international
spotlight.
And yet, another lady matters more to him.
That's not his ex-wife.
So who is it then?
Let's talk about Bezos first.
Forbes website says in August 2025 that Bezos has a net worth of about 230 billion US dollars.
His wealth has always ranked No. 1 in the world from 2018 to 2021.
He co-founded Amazon in 1994 out of his Seattle garage.
He stepped down as CEO to become executive chairman in 2021.
Today he still owns 90% of the company.
So who will take over his wealth?
Bezos and his first wife Mackenzie Scott had three sons and always longed for a daughter.
So they visited a welfare home in China.
All the children at the orphanage were terrified when they see a group of unfamiliar faces,
except for one girl, who greeted him with goofy smiles.
So Bezos adopted her right away.
After bringing her from China to the US, the family spotted her like a princess.
And guess what?
They also learned Chinese just for her sake.
She's now at least 18 years old, attending social events with her brother.
As the old saying goes, sons should grow up with little money,
whereas daughters should grow up with tons of money.
Bezos reportedly gives his daughter $50,000 allowance per day,
and she always ends with plenty left over and buys discounted sneakers.
To encourage her to spend more, he went so far as to buy her an island.
He is hiding his daughter's name from the public eye to avoid any kidnapping attempts,
and she always likes to keep a very low profile.
Bezos is encouraging his daughter to get dirty and build things,
even though it might be a little dangerous.
He said at a summit that he allowed his daughter to use knives at age four
and power tools at seven or eight.
Growing up, Bezos worked the summers on his grandfather's ranch, repairing tractors.
My grandfather would take on major projects that he didn't know how to do
and then figure out how to do them.
As a kid, I got to see him solve all these problems and be a real problem solver.
He added that his farm experience taught him resourcefulness,
something that he wanted to instill in his daughter.
We're not sure if his daughter has that quality,
but we are certain that she is the most blessed orphan in the world.
Why?
Human Rights Watch said in 1993 that mainland China was home to
roughly 1.5 million abandoned orphans each year.
By 2012, that number dropped to 570,000.
After each family can have two or three kids,
the total number of abandoned infants is declining.
The Chinese Communist Party said in 2022 that there were still nearly 160,000 orphans,
and only about 60,000 of them were in welfare centers, while the rest were homeless.
These kids are really at risk.
Human rights organizations outside China found that
half of abandoned infants in China's rural areas end up dying.
Dr. Helen Song worked at Children's Research Center in Beijing.
She says the large number of orphans in China has to do with Communist Party's one-child policy,
the Party strongly enforced since 1979,
reducing much-needed male labor in vast rural areas.
That led to a large number of female infants being abandoned,
so that peasant families can have another chance to have children, hopefully boys.
Staff at China's welfare center say if female infants can be adopted by U.S. families,
that's excellent.
If they can be adopted by the ultra-wealthy, that's even more of a blessing, though it rarely happens.
Over the past two to three decades in China,
Western families adopted 150,000 Chinese orphans.
Even as the most blessed orphan in the world, she still has to face challenges.
Shortly after Bezos became the most wealthy man on the planet,
he and Mackenzie divorced in 2019, putting 25 years of marriage to an end.
A teenager's worst nightmare is having to deal with her parents' messy divorce,
and years of media reports around the globe might have hurt her even more.
Though Bezos transferred some of his Amazon stake to her adopted mother Mackenzie,
making her the most wealthy woman around the globe in 2020,
Bezos said during an interview that he plans to give away most of his wealth
during his lifetime, possibly via Bezos' Earth Fund.
That means his daughter has to make a living on her own.
