Among the vast Forbidden City, the Hall of Supreme Harmony Square is undoubtedly the most massive single structure! Because it was paved with thick floor tiles covering an area of about 30,000 square feet, with a thickness of an astonishing 200 centimeters, and there was no adhesive between these bricks, it was to prevent assassins from entering the Forbidden City by digging tunnels.
Taihedian Square is the largest square in the Forbidden City! This square was mainly the place where officials at all levels gathered when the Chinese emperor held some important ceremonies a hundred years ago. This square in the Forbidden City is 30,000 square feet and is surrounded by buildings. In addition to the "Terrace" in front and the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the most important of these buildings are "Hongyi Pavilion" and "Tiren Pavilion". Among them, "Hongyi Pavilion" is the place where the armor of emperors of the Qing Dynasty is preserved, and "Tiren Pavilion" was once the place where "History of the Ming Dynasty" was compiled.
At the northern end of the Palace of Supreme Harmony Square in the Forbidden City, there is a huge three-story platform. When the entire "terrace" is looked down from the air, it can be clearly seen that it is a "earth" character. That is because in ancient concepts, in the direction of the five elements "Tu" lives in the middle, symbolizing that the king is here to command all directions! And "the land in the world is not the king's land" and other meanings. Eighteen tripods are placed on the south side of the "terrace", indicating that the Qing government ruled the eighteen provinces in the mainland. In addition, it also has an important visual effect. When a ceremony is held in the "Taihe Hall", cigarettes are lit inside the tripod, wrapping the Taihe Hall in a cloud of mist, increasing the sanctity of the Taihe Hall!
On the east and west ends of the "terrace" on the top floor, "Jialiang" and "Sundial" are placed. "Jialiang" is a container of weights and measures, and "sundial" is a tool for calculating time. This is a symbol that means "the world is based on my standards and my time is the meaning of time." It represents the unification of the world! There are also bronze cranes and bronze turtles. In Chinese mythology, cranes represent thousands and turtles represent ten thousand. With the addition of "sundial" and "jialiang", it becomes a metaphor for "the unification of the world for thousands of years".
