Hello, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of the Wellness Talk podcast.
I am George Batista, your host and your wellness advocate.
Of course, Wellness Talk is a show that goes over the latest in health, healing, nutrition,
fitness.
Here we give you options, right?
We give you a lot of options so you can take responsibility for your health and you can
use everything you can that's natural and non-toxic.
I hope you guys are doing great.
We've got two big subjects for you today.
The first one, we're going to do a deep dive into colostrum.
What is colostrum?
Some of you may know what colostrum is.
Some of you may not.
So we're going to dive into it.
This is from Wellness Resources and it's colostrum, liquid gold for immunity, gut health, and
athletic recovery.
So colostrum is basically the big compound in mother's milk that helps to, you know,
the development of a newborn as far as helping them with immunity and, you know, growth and
development, that type of thing.
But it does so much more than that.
So we're going to dive into exactly what it is, what systems does it affect in the body.
Of course, we'll go over the latest studies because that's what we do.
And then we'll talk about the supplements that you guys can take a look at if you are
interested in taking colostrum for your health.
So we'll dive into that specifically.
Then from there, I'm going to do something a little bit different.
I've talked about this in the past, but it's been a long time since I've, you know, gotten
into this.
But, you know, since we're heading towards the holidays now, we're already in the midst
of the holidays actually.
And of course, we have a lot of people who are making their resolutions and that type
of thing.
And of course, you know, people always end up waiting until the end of the year or the
beginning of the year to make their resolution because they're going to change whatever it
is.
And, you know, that's fine if they want to do it that way, even though you can, I always
say you can make change at any time of the year, but we'll stick with the resolution
piece.
But I'm going to talk about my philosophy and I'm going to talk about my philosophy
in terms of how I got to where I am today, as far as on in the health space anyway.
The philosophy that I used, which is actually called the slide edge philosophy, and it's
based off of a book called the slide edge by a gentleman named Jeff Olson.
And I'm going to talk about exactly what the slide edge philosophy is and how it helped
me and how it can help you.
And the reason why I'm doing this is because, again, you know, I've worked with so many
people on the health side of things, but you realize in health, one of the things you realize
that the more people you work with, the, the, the actual amount of people that are actually
going to do what you tell them to do or, or take the advice that you give them.
It's very, very, it's actually a small percentage.
You'd be surprised how, uh, how much of a small percentage it actually is of people
that actually are compliant in what you tell them to do.
Right.
And you kind of think about why is that?
Okay.
And it's all about their philosophy.
And it's really about, um, you know, where they are, you know, in their space, actually
in their head space, but what is their mentality?
What is their philosophy?
And if they have their philosophy in the right place, it can change their life.
And that's what happened to me when I kind of started in my health journey.
So I'm going to talk about exactly what the philosophy is, the philosophy that I use till
this day that has gotten me to where I am in my, in health and in many other areas of
my life.
And by the way, that book, the slide edge philosophy, I want to talk about it because
it, it's one of my favorite books that I, I've read probably three times already.
And I would definitely recommend it if you really want to change your life in a very
simple fashion.
So we're going to talk about, and I put the, I put an article from Jeff Olson on the
website.
So you guys can take, you know, take a look at that.
Of course, you know, go to georgebautista.com cause that's where all the articles are.
And that article is on there as well.
So, um, you know, again, if your philosophy is not right, nothing else is going to work.
I'm going to tell you that right now.
And pretty much anything you do in health, trying to get yourself back from a health
crisis, or just trying to keep yourself, you know, healthy is not going to work if
you don't have the right mentality for it.
So, um, that's really fundamentally where it starts.
So I want to talk about that.
I'm going to give you some suggestions and some things you guys can just take with
you, especially again, going into the new year.
If you want to start your year, right.
You want to start, you know, different ways of doing things.
You want to, you know, change your life.
You can definitely change it.
And, um, this is some ways to do it.
Cause again, this is what worked for me.
So I'm going to talk about that, do a deep dive into that as well.
Okay.
So that's what we got on tap for you today.
But even before that, there is a website I want to direct you guys to.
And it's a, it's a, an organization that I've been following for a long time.
I've talked about them on this show in the past and it's called
the Alliance for Natural Health.
And the reason why I'm bringing them up is because, um, they have been, they
have been one of the biggest fighters and one of the biggest organizations
on the planet fighting for natural health freedom, and basically what
they are is they, they're an organization that really kind of puts
on the forefront, everything we can do natural and non-toxic to help our
health and they, you know, they come up with, you know, they have all
different, they have tons of articles.
They have tons, you know, they've, they have, um, they've
been involved in litigation and trying to keep our natural health
products in general, in, you know, uh, accessible to, to us, to the
average person, and they do such great work out there.
And, um, you know, one, one thing you realize when you're again, in
this space, as far as health and nutrition and stuff like that, another
thing you realize is that, you know, no matter what you do in the health
space, no matter what you talk about, you have to acknowledge that there
are forces way bigger than you and me that are out there to kind of get
rid of, or at least try to kind of, um, you know, try to squash the
natural health movement.
Okay.
Whether it's supplements, whether it's herbs, whether it's natural,
non-toxic therapies or modalities, you know, everything from yoga to,
you know, to Qigong to, um, you know, all different types of Tai Chi to
acup, you know, acupuncture and acupressure and all these types of
things.
Okay.
And you, you have to understand that there are forces, even in politics
and your public health officials, even in government, even in, you know,
organizations that are trying to do everything they can to try to, um, you
know, to squash these types of things, to, to squash the ability of you
having access to supplements, having access to natural remedies and, and
these types of things.
And, and, um, obviously you saw it big time in, in the last three years, but
it's just something that you can't get away from and it's continuing to happen.
And to this day, and I've talked about it again on this show before, but to this
day, there are bills being introduced in Senate that are trying to regulate
supplements, regulate them to the point that it's much harder to have access to
them and where supplement companies, even supplement companies that I talk
about on this show that are really doing it right, that are really doing everything
by the book are still, um, you know, are, are, are still being, uh, you know,
suppressed basically, or they're trying to make supplement companies, trying to,
um, make it harder for supplement companies to actually make supplements.
And even if they make them the right way and it's, and it's tough, it's a tough
thing because it's kind of like a David and Goliath type of thing.
But the, the Alliance for Natural Health, again, is really doing great work as far
as highlighting and spotlighting these things and, and really, um, just doing,
you know, just doing, you know, incredible work in this space.
So I just want to acknowledge them and I want to play a quick video regarding
them, um, just to kind of highlight what they do and how you can help you.
Cause you guys out there who really want access to natural remedies and
supplements and these types of things, right?
Um, you guys can help us out in really getting the word out.
And, um, so let me just play a quick video of them just so you can kind of
understand where they are and how you can help them.
This is Dr.
Ronald Hoffman.
I'm here to tell you that big pharma using its revolving door with the FDA is
trying to wrestle ever greater control over natural molecules, preventing them
from being used and sold to you in dietary supplements or by compounding
pharmacies.
Right now, the FDA is working to remove your access to the longevity supplement
NMN.
You could have, you know, it's like CBD and CBG that help with anxiety and pain
to compounded bioidentical hormones for menopause and other hormonal imbalances,
as well as to homeopathy and natural therapeutic peptides used to support
metabolism, cardiovascular and immune health and hasten recovery.
This giving season, you can help to protect your right to natural health.
And each is advocating on your behalf to protect access to these and other safe
and inexpensive options, as well as to your right to be healthy naturally.
You support us, please visit give to a and h.org today to help us to help you
in 2024 and beyond.
Thank you.
All right, folks.
So there it is.
Um, again, the, uh, the Alliance for natural health really just doing some
great work.
So help support them give to a and H.
Um, Joe, I'm going to make sure I put a link in the show notes for them as well,
but you can also go to the Alliance for natural health website and you can help
not only support them, you can give, but you can also, they have the links there
where you can write your local congressmen.
You can write your senators, write your local officials and tell them that you
still want access to choose.
You, you do not support any bills that take away any access to supplements,
especially good quality supplements and access to therapies and herbal therapies
and all these types of things.
Okay.
So you guys can help.
So I'm asking you guys do whatever you can, not only to support programs like
myself, but many of the other programs, there's tons of programs out there that
do great work in this space as well, but also support the Alliance for natural
health.
They're really doing whatever they can to try to, you know, make sure that we all
have access because if we don't have access, then basically we're at the end of
the day, folks will be screwed really will.
We won't have, you know, the health freedom that we really should have.
So, um, there's just my two cents on it, folks, but you know, join me and join
them and really, you know, do what you can to support them because it is really
important.
All right, guys.
That's just my quick little elevator pitch on that.
So let's get started with our topics for this week.
So the first one, uh, is from wellness resources.
This is colostrum liquid gold for immunity, gut health and athletic recovery.
So let's talk about exactly what colostrum is.
Okay.
So it is the first mother's milk liquid gold that is essential for the
development of a newborn's immune system.
Okay.
As well, the growth and development, um, you know, colostrum also supplies
nourishment and, uh, repair, you know, repair benefits for immune, for the
immune system, the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract, uh, and for all
ages, it's not just for newborns.
It can help pretty much anybody, but that's where it's really concentrated
again, because remember that when you're a newborn, you really don't, your, your
immune system is just starting to develop and obviously, you know,
breastfeeding and, and getting all the nutrients from your, you know, from your
mom is, is really the most important in keeping, you know, keeping the baby
healthy and to keep the baby growing.
Right.
So now, you know, colostrum supplies, essential biologically active compounds
necessary for staying well at all ages of life.
Okay.
Nutrients found in colostrum include proteins, vitamins and minerals,
oligosaccharides, okay.
Glycoproteins and peptides with antimicrobial activity, immunoglobulins,
lactoferrin, growth factors, and more.
So all the stuff we need, all the stuff we need to grow, all the, all the stuff
we need for our immune system to really develop and it includes everything
in there for the newborn.
So let's talk a little bit about the vitamins and minerals it contains.
So bovine colostrum is a richer source of nutrients than traditional dairy milk.
Colostrum contains small amounts of calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium,
magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, sulfur, manganese, and vitamins A, C, D, E, and
K, B1, B2, all the B vitamins, basically folate and choline.
Of course, those are essential for, you know, for your growth and development,
you know, and even well into your older ages, right?
And again, as I've always talked about, you need the vitamins and
minerals, you know, all of your life.
You know, not just when you're a newborn, but even into your, well, into your
old age, because that is what, you know, basically, uh, runs the metabolism.
That is what runs enzyme in your body.
And that's what your enzymes need to be able to run your metabolism.
And all these things need to happen.
Okay.
So you need vitamins and minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, beating
that dead drum, but of course, this is what we need.
Now let's talk about probiotic and gut health case.
Colostrum also contains oligosaccharides.
Okay.
Which are a type of a carbohydrate.
Oligosaccharides act as a prebiotic in the colon.
Now remember what prebiotics are.
We've talked about it before.
Prebiotics are basically the nourishment for the beneficial bacteria, and they
help to establish a healthy gut microbiome.
It's kind of like what your probiotics feed on to help them proliferate.
Okay.
Glycoproteins from bovine colostrum, uh, contain glycomacropeptides or GMPs,
which promote the growth of the beneficial bacteria, bifidobacterium longum infantis.
Okay.
So basically those that's, you know, beneficial bacteria, that's one of
the strains of beneficial bacteria.
GMPs also act as a prebiotic supporting the growth of the beneficial
flora in your gut microbiome and increase the production of postbiotic
short chain fatty acids like butyrate.
And again, I talked about those as well in previous episode, the postbiotic.
Again, these compounds are crucial for intestinal lining repair.
Okay.
Weight management, metabolism, and, uh, you know, inhibit the
growth of non-beneficial bacteria.
So you got your prebiotics, your probiotics, and then your postbiotics
again, which are the short chain, uh, fatty acids like butyrate.
And that's what they do.
Okay.
Next we have other bioactive compounds such as immunoglobulins.
So colostrum contains several other bioactive compounds for biological
immune activity and metabolism.
These include immunoglobulins.
Now these immunoglobulins, you may have heard of some of them.
You have IgM, IgA, IgD, IgE, and IgG.
Okay.
Lactoferrin and numerous growth factor are also part of this as well.
Okay.
So this is really where we hone down on the immune system because if, if these
things are out of whack, your immune system's not working properly.
It's just that simple, right?
Immunoglobulins provide passive immunity as well as a modulation of the
adaptive and innate immune systems.
Okay.
These are, these are the immune systems, obviously that we, you know, that we're
not only that we're, that are transferred to us, but that basically, you know, keep
us healthy for the rest of our lives.
Right.
And IgG, when you take a look at some of these, at least IgG fuels the growth and
repair of cells within the gut and improves intestinal barrier integrity.
And then we have immunoglobulin IgA, which is required for all the
mucosal barriers, such as the gut, the sinus, the throat, the lungs, the eyes,
where even the gastrointestinal tract.
Okay.
And immunoglobulins, another thing that they do is that they activate T-cells and
B-cells against current and future immune threats, as well as engage
macrophages to destroy pathogens.
Okay.
I've talked about the, the barriers as well.
Okay.
The mucosal barriers, because remember we have those immune, mucosal barriers in
the gut and the sinuses.
Okay.
And the throat and the eyes, the lungs.
And again, I did a whole thing on the mucosal barriers and mucosal lining and
how, you know, we can keep them healthy as well as how they kind of swell up and
create mucus when a pathogen comes into the, you know, comes into your system.
When a foreign pathogen comes into your system and what do they do?
They trap the particulate matter.
And then basically they, it gets expelled by your body through your, you know,
through your coughing, through your sinuses, through your nose, through your,
through your mouth, through, you know, congestion and coughing and these types
of things, this is basically how the whole system works, right?
So again, the, the colostrum and you know, basically is beneficial
for this whole entire system.
Now, lactoferrin for immune health.
So lactoferrin is another compound in colostrum that provides several
immune modulating activities.
Now it binds to lipopolysaccharides, okay.
Which is a toxin produced by your bacteria and it provides other
means of protection against microbes.
I've talked about lipopolysaccharides as well.
If you have any candida problems, if you have any kind of intestinal problems,
you may have a, you know, a big overgrowth of lipopolysaccharides.
Okay.
So you want to try to get those out as quickly as possible because what
ends up happening is again, this can affect your health.
If you, if you have an overgrowth of this and it gets out of control, then
you can have an overgrowth of inflammatory cytokines in the gut, which
can also affect your respiratory system.
Because remember, it kind of goes back and forth, right.
And it, you know, can get out of hand.
So obviously we don't want that.
Lactoferrin along with other compounds in colostrum aids in the production
of antimicrobial factors and helps to both stimulate and inhibit immune
responses in supportive ways.
So lactoferrin very, very key also in colostrum.
Let's talk a little about strengthening the immune
system and some, some recent studies.
So there was a, a 2023 randomized triple blind placebo control trial in the
medical students that demonstrated, demonstrated colostrums, excellent
effectiveness in immune and respiratory health when overworked.
Now we all know medical students tend to be overworked, right?
They're working long hours.
They're working overnights.
Sometimes they're on, you know, long, long shifts.
They don't get enough sleep, you know, they, and of course, on top of that,
they're, you know, they're in close proximity to people who have all
different types of infections and, you know, toxins and all this type of stuff.
So they are, it, you know, they're basically big time stress, right?
You know, these medical students, so healthy, young, busy medical students
with increased contact with infectious agents were given a placebo or 0.5 to
1.0 grams a day of bovine colostrum during the clinical trial, students who
received the colostrum supplement experienced improved overall wellbeing
and fewer respiratory concerns compared to those who received the placebo.
So that's interesting.
Next let's talk about athletes.
Colostrum is also a popular supplement actually that is used by athletes.
There was a recent clinical trial with, with elite young female basketball
players that evaluated the use of colostrum and its effects.
The results showed statistically significant improvement in interleukin
10 levels and lower creatine kinase levels in the athletes who received the
colostrum, this may help to improve the exercise recovery time.
Now IL-10 is a cytokine basically.
And it plays a pivotal, you know, it plays pivotal roles in the immune
system and the inflammation in the management of immune system inflammation.
And it decreases antigen presentation and down-regulates
other pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Creatine kinase, however, is an indicator of muscle fiber damage.
Keep that in mind.
Now there was a different clinical trial that demonstrated the positive benefits
with colostrum supplementation in elite female athletes.
Those who received the colostrum compared to the placebo were found to have lower
levels of free radicals, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses.
The dosage used was 3.2 grams of bovine colostrum per day for six months.
So that's very interesting.
Next let's talk about antibiotics, NSAIDs and other medications and stress.
So another valuable use of colostrum and lactoferrin was found another
very recent study and it was individuals who supplemented with colostrum while
using antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, corticosteroids,
and et cetera, during a chronic stress event experienced greater quality of
wellness and recovery than those who used the medications alone.
So another great thing.
So if you're on these kinds of medications as well, okay, and your body's already
stressed obviously because if you're on these medications, you're dealing with
some kind of stress anyway, okay, but those who not only had the supplement,
but were also on these medications had a better, better wellness and better
recovery. It's as simple as that. Okay.
Let's talk about bones and colostrum.
Now this is something that I didn't know. This is very interesting.
There was a recent animal studies in rats evaluated the effect of colostrum on
bone density.
Female and male rats had their reproductive organs removed and were given bovine
colostrum results showed increased bone formation improvements in bone micro
architecture,
strength and cellular metabolism with colostrum supplementation for four months
in the female rats. Now, again, this is a rat study. It's not a human study.
So we know there, there might be some differences in there.
So we definitely got to get some human studies in this,
but this is promising, right? If colostrum can help in bones,
this is just another great thing that bovine colostrum can be beneficial for.
So good news on that front.
Hope to see more as far as the human trials on that.
So let's talk a little bit about colostrum supplements. So obviously again,
the next, the next thing would be, you know,
where can I get this as a supplement and how effective is it? So, you know,
you can take a look at, of course, you know,
we look at one of the supplement companies that we work with is wellness
resources. So they have super immune booster and let the slim,
both are our customer favorites.
Now super immune booster contains 1200 milligrams of bovine colostrum per
serving. It is standard, not standardized for third,
30% IgG immunoglobulins.
It also contains a rabinogalactin, which is a prebiotic is actually a carbohydrate
olive leaf extract and beta glucan from maitake mushrooms.
This product has been a customer favorite for decades and is excellent daily
immune support for the whole family.
Colostrum is also in their other supplement called lepti slim.
Now this provides blood sugar and metabolic support and colostrum supports
healthy metabolism and enhances thyroid hormone activation.
So those are two great supplements that you can utilize if you are looking to
get some support from colostrum, especially again,
we're in the winter months when the throws of the winter months,
it's freezing out there. Now our bodies are stressed.
We have holiday stress on top of that. Now that's going on. So you know,
and then of course we have everything that's running around right now. So again,
we want to do everything we can to keep our immune system in check.
Another thing you can add to the toolbox is bovine colostrum,
super immune booster and or lepti slim.
Great option for this on top of all the stuff that we talk about, right?
Vitamin C, vitamin D, course it's in all the big power players in terms of
immunity. So again, uh, colostrum, it's a great thing.
You can definitely use it. It's not just for newborns. Obviously it's,
it's natural for the newborn development,
but you can use it well into your old age. You can use it as an athlete.
You can use it, uh, you know, in, in, in many, many different ways.
So just check it out. Colostrum is something you can, uh, again,
add to the immune tool box. All right,
next I'm going to talk about the slide edge philosophy.
So this is going to be a little bit more philosophical,
but it actually works really, really well in health.
But you can apply this to anything. Okay. You can apply it to business.
You can apply it to health. You can apply it to your job.
You can apply it to your marriage. You could apply it to all, you know,
pretty much anything you want to do. If you're an artist, right. You know, I, I,
we talked to a lot of artists as well. I, you guys know that I do another show,
which is now called the artist blueprint where we help a lot of artists.
You can apply to, you can apply it to that as well.
So basically this was my philosophy. Now I,
I, I, I got a book.
I used to be in network marketing years ago and, um,
I actually did pretty well doing it just so you guys know. But anyway, um,
I was introduced to a book by a gentleman named Jeff Olson and the book is
called the slide edge. And it's actually on my, uh,
little collection behind me. Um, so,
but I've talked about this book before,
probably early in this podcast.
And what I read this book and I was so blown away and I actually saw many
lectures of Jeff Olson. Those of you who don't know who Jeff Olson is,
he is actually, he, he's one of those guys that just knows how to do it.
So he is a, um, he's an amazing sales guy.
He's really known for being in the sales space. He's an executive, uh,
executive sales, uh, but he's a business guy. He's run many businesses.
And he was really famous for, he, he would take a business from the ground up,
literally, or let's say a business that wasn't doing well.
And he would be hired for that business.
And he would take that business and just, you know,
take it through the roof and he would make it a million dollar profitable
business. And the thing is that he did that with many different businesses.
He did that. I want to say at least three different businesses.
I'm sure there was more, but he was in advertising. He was in sales.
He was, I mean, this guy knew what he was doing.
And I was at a few lectures that he was at.
And when I used to go to conferences back then, and he just blew me away.
The reason why he blew me away because of his philosophy,
his philosophy was so simple. It was,
it was really ridiculously simple. And he even said it, he said, I am boring.
I am simple. I just do the philosophy really, really simple. There's nothing,
there's no magic in, in it. There's nothing fancy about it.
People want to get so fancy with things and it wasn't fancy,
which is a very simple philosophy.
And what he did was he applied the slight edge philosophy to every
business that he built and every business that he built went on to become a
successful profitable business. And you know, so, and you know,
when you look at something like that, you've got to say, okay,
he's got a magic formula. So he put it into this book called the slide edge.
And again, I rec highly recommend it. I know they,
they've done a few revisions in the last few years,
but you can get it on Amazon. You can get in many different places, whatever,
but it's just a fantastic book. And basically what the slide edge is that is,
is this. Okay. And again, I put the article on the website as well. So, you know,
the article kind of sums up the book, you know, so it is a great summary,
but I would suggest you definitely check out the book because it really goes in
in depth and it talks about his experiences and you really realize why he was so
successful and continues to be. Uh, I'm sure.
But basically what he talks about is why these people are successful and what is
the philosophy behind these successful people.
And I'm going to throw some highlights in here. He says, successful people,
this is directly from the article, by the way,
successful people use inertia to build momentum,
making their upward journey of success easier and easier.
Okay.
And one of the things he talks about is we've heard about this whole business of
a penny when you double a penny every day. Right? So I'm going to,
I'm going to just highlight it here. He says here in this article,
a penny is called a cent because it is 100th or 1% of a dollar.
So let's say you add 1% of whatever value you want to achieve in all these areas
by the end of the year, by adding 1% each day,
pure addition, no compound interest.
How much have you added? A total of 365%.
In other words, three and a half times triple. Okay. Triple.
Think about that. Then another half per year.
So every day in every moment you get to exercise choices that will determine
whether you, whether or not you will become a great person living a great life.
Greatness is not something predetermined,
predestined or carved out into your fate by forces beyond your control.
Greatness is always in the moment of the decision.
So think about that for a second. Okay. So let's equate that to health.
Now I'm going to go back to how I started because you guys remember I was a very
sickly kid,
all different types of illnesses and chronic problems that I was dealing with.
And for whatever reason, for whatever reason,
I'm actually know when the reason was. It was when I, this was 25 years ago.
I want to say, cause it was definitely before my wife and I got married.
When I remember being at a barbecue and I remember a friend of my wife,
a close friend of my wife, and he said, I'll never forget this.
I, we were just having a conversation and he told me, he said, um,
he said, Oh, I have type, uh, I have diabetes.
And back then I didn't know much about diabetes at all. Right. And he says, um,
he says, yeah, I have type two diabetes. And I was like, Oh, okay. So I said, Oh,
you must be on medication or whatever. And he was like, no, I'm not on medication.
And I said, you're not. He says, no. He says, um, I,
I manage it with my diet.
And I was shocked because I expected him to say that he was on medication and he
wasn't. And I never forgot that conversation.
And then I said to myself from that point, I said, wait a minute,
if this guy can do that and he's doing it by himself,
he wasn't working with a nutritionist.
He wasn't working with a functional medicine doctor. He wasn't working.
And back then, 25, 26 years ago, you know,
that wasn't as much of a thing as it is these days. Right. He was like,
he was like, no, I just did it by myself.
I did some reading on it somewhere in a book or something.
And then I just started doing it. And sure enough,
I've maintained my levels and I've maintained it with diet.
He wasn't even taking supplements. And I'm like, okay,
I've got to figure this out because if this guy can do it and I consider myself
a fairly intelligent guy, I can probably figure this out.
So this is when I really started to dive in.
And I kind of had a cursory knowledge of some nutrition here and there because I
was working out a lot. I, you know,
knew a lot about amino acids and I knew a lot about, you know, um, you know,
weight gain powders. And I knew a lot about, you know, that type of stuff.
But I,
I wanted to dive into nutrition and actual the food and supplements and these
types of things. So this is when I really started to dive into it.
And what did I do? I basically,
I kept seeing this whole thing about supplementation and being nutritionally
deficient and what supplements or what nutrition actually does.
Forget about supplements,
what nutrition actually does and what the vitamins and minerals do.
And I said, you know what? Maybe I'm deficient. Maybe that's the problem because,
because a over the counter stuff wasn't helping me.
Doctors weren't helping me and I was getting sicker every year.
I had to do something. So what did I do? I said, you know what?
I'm going to change my diet and I'm going to start taking some supplements and
I'm going to see what happens. It's going to see what happens.
I didn't even know anything about it.
I just started taking whatever supplements I thought were good.
I saw them in magazines and I went to at the time it was whatever the health food
store was at the time and I just took some multivitamins, started taking them.
And then at the same time I changed my diet. Okay.
So I started to lessen the sugar cause I was living on pizza and Chinese food,
all these types of things. Right.
And I started to get my diet a little bit better. I, you know,
I didn't drink soda at the time. I wasn't doing anything crazy.
And every day I just started doing,
but the funny thing is I didn't notice a difference till later,
meaning that I just kept doing it over and over and over and over.
It started taking my supplements and I said, what's, you know, it's got,
I don't think it's going to hurt me. So let's just start doing it.
Started taking supplements every day, changing my diet, taking supplements,
changing my diet, taking supplements, eating a little bit better,
wiser choices, wiser choices.
And then I realized it had to be maybe over six months or so that I started to
feel better. I started to have more energy.
I wasn't getting sick as much. Right.
And I wasn't doing anything magical. It was just these little things,
just by taking a multivitamin.
Then I started taking some vitamin C because I read the vitamin C was good.
So I started pairing the vitamin C with my multivitamin. I said,
let's try that, see what happens. And I noticed over a year's time,
I started to feel better and my allergy started to get a little less.
And in that year, my bronchitis, I didn't get bronchitis that year.
I had a cold, but my cold didn't turn into bronchitis. It started to get,
you know, I, so I started to notice little differences over time,
but I was doing this every day, every single day I was doing this.
And this was the key.
I didn't realize at the time that I was using the slight edge philosophy. Why?
Because I was doing it every single year over and over, but every single day,
sorry, not every single year. Well, it was every year too,
but every single day I was doing over and over and over.
And I wasn't thinking about it. It was just over and over and over. Okay.
And my philosophy started to change because as I realized it,
after a year, I'm going, wow, I'm noticing a difference. I'm feeling better.
The circles under my eyes are starting to go away little by little because I had
circles under the eyes. I'm feeling a little better, a little better,
a little better. This was the secret ingredient.
My philosophy started to change and then I started to realize, okay,
this is working. And that's when the philosophy really hit. Okay.
And it says here, a positive philosophy turns into a positive attitude,
which turns into positive actions, which turns into positive results,
which turns into a positive lifestyle, which turns into a positive life.
And that's what started happening for me. One turned into the other,
which turned into the other, which turned into the other. And,
and then I started to get excited because I said, wait a minute,
if this is working, then I should do more of this.
That's when I really started to dive into nutrition and health. And you know,
the internet started to really grow at that point.
I started to get some more information on the internet and books and the library
and this and that really started to get into this type of stuff. Okay.
Exercise and fitness. And then I said, you know,
I started talking to other people about it and all this,
but if it wasn't for making that decision in the beginning, forget it.
I would have never done that. Right. So, you know,
think about these types of things when you're, when you're looking at your health,
whatever it is in your health, you want to do, right.
You want to lose that weight. You want to do like what I did. You want to start,
stop getting sick every year, right?
You want to start boosting your immune system, right?
You want to maybe change a health issue that you have. You want to,
you want to compliment what it is that your doctor's, you know, doing with you.
You want to talk to your doctor, see if you can do whatever it,
whatever it is that you're looking to do. Think about this philosophy, for example.
Okay. Now they talk about the rules in here. Okay.
They talk about why some of these rules that the 1% or the,
or the 5% at the top that actually are successful in whatever they do,
why they're overlooked. Right. So I'm going to go over them really quick here.
The reason number one,
why these rules are overlooked is because these rules are easy to do. Okay.
And the simple things that lead to success are all easy to do,
but they're also just as easy not to do. Now I could have not done that.
I could have not taken those supplements. I could have just said, no,
I'll just won't do it. Okay. I could have said,
I'm not going to spend that extra money per month doing it.
That would have been easy not to do.
I could have just sat in my couch and watch TV and not exercised.
That's easy to do. I could have done that, but you know what? I did it. Okay.
I made the decision to do it. Okay. So that's,
that's one of the keys.
Reason number two that people overlook this is because the results are
invisible. Okay.
The things that create success in long run don't look like they're having any
impact, which is exactly what I had, right?
They don't look like they're having any impact in the short run.
The results are too far in the future. They're invisible.
I didn't see the results in the beginning, but I kept doing it.
There was some strange reason in my head that told me somehow that this is going
to work. I don't know what it was. Okay. So,
but you're not going to see the results. So if you want to lose the weight,
if you want to stop eating, you know, crap. Okay.
You're not going to see the results in that day.
You're not going to see the results in the week.
You may not even see it in a couple of weeks. Okay.
But you may start to feel it after a month, after two months, four months,
six months. But look at yourself.
If you are committed to the philosophy every single day,
watch yourself over a year. Why? Because it compounds a year from now.
If you're doing the right thing and you're doing the little simple things every
single day in a year, you will definitely notice the difference.
And then you get excited.
That's when you get excited because you realize, Holy cow, it actually works.
Okay. So it's the compound compounded thing over time.
Okay. And then the third reason why they're overlooked, they say here,
they seem insignificant.
The difference between success and failure is so subtle,
so mundane that most people miss it. And this is the key.
This is why I had somebody asked me once I had told them to take supplements,
right? And they, they asked me and they told me, they said, you know,
I don't feel any different in taking a supplement.
I said, how long have you been taking them? Oh, for a month. I said, well,
you're probably not going to feel the difference right away. Okay.
You may, you, you're probably going to feel them down the line.
It's not just a magic thing. Okay.
Because remember getting to the place where you were,
like let's say you're way overweight and you're diabetic or whatever the case
would be. That didn't happen overnight, right?
There was a slide edge principle that was applied to that.
So for example, it took you years, right?
It could have taken you a year or more to get to that place.
It's going to take you a year or more to get out of that.
So think about that for a second.
These are subtle differences that may seem insignificant, but again,
most people miss it over time. You will see it. Okay. So again,
the slide edge principle, it's not sexy. The slides,
the slide edge principle may even be boring. Okay.
It may be boring cause it's not sexy, but do it every day, every single day,
every day, nonstop without failure, every day, every day, over, over and over.
Don't stop doing it. That's the key. If you don't stop doing,
you're going to see a difference over a year's time. Again, it's not sexy.
It's not boring. The, the, the key about is when someone stopped,
this is why when I work with people and when I've worked with people in the
past, I say, you need to commit to this for at least a year, at least a year.
If you don't commit to this for a year, in six months, you'll be gone in three
months. You'll be gone because you're not going to apply that philosophy.
It's, it's that simple. Okay. And what he says in the book and what he says,
also, he says,
successful people do the little things that seem to make no
difference in all in the act of doing them.
And they just do them over and over and over until the compounded effect
kicks in. And then it works.
That is the philosophy right there. Hands down. Okay.
So you guys can apply these habits. You guys, they become habits, by the way,
you guys can apply these habits. And then when you get there,
when you get to the year and you realize, Holy cow, I've lost the weight.
Holy cow. I've changed it. Celebrate that. Celebrate the wind.
It's key to do this. Okay. It's key to really do this.
So this some habits that they talk about here each morning,
write down three things that you're grateful for. That's habit.
Number one habit, number two journal for two minutes a day,
about one positive experience that you've had over the past 24 hours.
Number three, meditate daily, even if it's for five minutes,
10 minutes or whatever it is, just relax, have a relaxation routine.
Do that every single day at the same time, if possible, every day.
Number four, do a random act of kindness over the course of each day.
And number five exercise for at least 15 minutes a day, 15 minutes is nothing.
Simple cardio, brief, brisk walk, you know, some work with some weights,
some bands, everything, little things like that.
You do those things every single day, 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there,
and they will compound over time. That is the slide edge principle. Okay.
That is what you should be applying everything every single day. Okay.
And then some final notes here in this, he says,
in this article, again,
you guys can read the article for yourselves and definitely pick up the book.
19 he says 19 times out of 20 there is no single big,
significant answer.
It is the little things day by day that add up over time to unshakable
contentment or unsalvageable misery.
Successful people don't look for shortcuts, nor,
nor they hope for the big break. Okay. Habit. Number one, show up.
Habit. Number two, be consistent. Habit. Number three, have a positive outlook.
Habit. Number four, be committed for the long haul. Okay.
Habit. Number five, cultivate a burning desire backed by faith.
Habit. Number six, be willing to pay the price. Remember, remember this,
whatever price you pay, there's a bigger price to pay for not doing it. Okay.
And habit. Number seven, practice the slight edge integrity.
Okay. So that is the slight edge principle.
That is the principle that got me here.
That is the principle that I use to this day with pretty much everything that I
do, including with this show and any show that I'm involved in.
It's the slight edge principle.
And I've used it with this show because I do something with this show every
single day to move it forward. And we're seeing it in num in the numbers. Okay.
And I do it with the other, the other shows I've worked with.
I do it with everything that I do.
I do it in my health and my nutrition and what I do with my family and
everything that I do. I apply the slide edge principle. Okay.
So think about these types of things when you're heading into the new
year. Again, we are heading into brand new year.
If you are one of those that makes a resolution,
whether you want to lose weight, you want to be healthier,
whatever it is you want to do, check it out.
The slide edge principle pick up the slide edge by Jeff Olson.
Fantastic book. One of my favorites,
probably my top three of books all time. Um, you know,
and it's part of this collection that I have behind me because these are some of
my favorite books in general, but check it out. I guarantee you,
if you apply this philosophy, if you apply the philosophy every single day,
every single day, and just, just do it, just do it every day.
Even if it takes a 10 minutes, 15 minutes, whatever it is every day,
watch what happens over a year. You will,
you will be shocked at where you are,
how you feel or what you've accomplished over a year's time.
Okay. Think about that. Think about that.
And the first thing you can do is read the article and even buy the book and
then read the book. And I guarantee you, you will be glad you did. Okay.
So just my two cents, my philosophy going into the new year.
For those of you who are interested. All right, guys,
thank you so much for being here. Those of you stuck around.
I appreciate you as always. Uh, love you guys. And as always,
I will do everything I can each day to live this way and to impart what I've
learned over the years to you guys, to, uh, give you, you know,
health tips for your health toolbox and hopefully will help you live a healthier
lives. Have a great week. Take care of yourselves,
take care of each other and control your health.
