Why is the entrance of the Meridian Gate different from other city gates? Who can embark on the same path as the emperor? The Story of the Imperial Staff at the Meridian Gate

The Palace Museum in Beijing, referred to as the Forbidden City. The century-old Forbidden City is called the Forbidden City and was the residence of China's rulers of the Ming and Qing dynasties 600 years ago. The entrance to the south of this century-old Forbidden City serves as the official entrance. Since this is the theocratic era and the residence of God’s spokesperson, it naturally has many special characteristics. First of all, it adopts the Chinese high-standard "Que", and it also symbolizes the sun at the middle of the day, indicating the emperor's significance to the people; just like the sun in the sky, it has the effect of nourishing life!

The plaque on the Meridian Gate of the Centennial Forbidden City originally had Manchu and Chinese characters side by side. Later, Yuan Shikai removed the Manchu characters, leaving the current Chinese characters. The two characters "Meridian Gate" above were deliberately missing the upper hook of the last stroke because the shape might not be conducive to the ruler, which is called "missing strokes". In fact, all the place name plaques in the Centennial Forbidden City do not use check strokes. Even if they have to be used, they will be "lack of strokes". This is the reason. The Meridian Gate of the Centennial Forbidden City has a total of 5 entrances and exits, of which the central gate is used by the emperor. However, there are two situations where certain people can enjoy this honor. One is that the queen can enter once, and the other is for the first time in the imperial examination. One to three people can walk out of the central door once. In addition, the west door on the front of the Meridian Gate of the Centenary Forbidden City is used by the clan princes, and the east door is used by officials of the third rank or above. It represents the strict hierarchy of the Forbidden City.

Finally, in front of the Meridian Gate of the Centennial Forbidden City, it is also the place where the "Tingzhang" ceremony is held.
