Motorcyclist is a menace during morning rush hour...until CAUGHT by Arkansas State Police! #pursuit
Trooper's Report:
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at approximately 0712 hours, I was traveling east on Interstate 40, at mile marker 131,
when a blue sport bike with no license plate passed me at a very high rate of speed. When the motorcycle initially passed me, it
was traveling between the left and middle lanes, splitting cars. I attempted to catch up and conduct a traffic stop, but the bike
sped up, and a pursuit ensued.
We continued east on Interstate 40, in heavy rush hour traffic, where speeds were in excess of 130 mph. The motorcycle
continued to weave in and out of traffic, even passing on the shoulders. As we were approaching the county line, the bike
passed a Faulkner County deputy on the right shoulder. After leaving the county, we continued east across the flats. At this
point, speeds were in excess of 140 mph due to a break in traffic. Traffic became heavy again as we neared the 142, at which
time he continued to split lanes and pass on the shoulders. After passing White Oak Crossing, the bike took the I 430 South
exit. He crossed over all four lanes of traffic at the last moment to take the exit. Once on I 430, he began passing cars on the
right shoulder as we neared exit 12. At this point, Trooper Caviness was attempting to join the pursuit from the right shoulder.
This forced the bike into the grass where he lost control and crashed.
After a brief struggle, Donavan Cox was taken into custody and mirandized.
While searching his person, I found a blue pistol
and extra magazine located inside his backpack. After a short time, 365 Towing took possession of the motorcycle (2023
Yamaha YFZ 690, VIN #JYARM38E8PA008280). I transported Cox to the Faulkner County Detention Center, Unit #2, where
he was booked without incident.
Cox showed a complete disregard for the safety of not only himself, but every motorist on the roadway. Cox is only 23 but has
12 points on his driver’s license.
At the conclusion of the pursuit, I spoke with Greg Bray, who is a Trooper in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Arkansas
State Police. He stated to me that he had observed this same motorcycle splitting cars and driving recklessly for the past two
days on his way to work. Trooper Bray is in an unmarked vehicle, therefor he could not engage in a pursuit. Trooper Bray
informed me that we passed him in the pursuit after the Morgan exit.
Cox is currently employed as a legal analyst for DHS (Department of Human Services) in Little Rock. Trooper Caviness
contacted his supervisor and informed them that Cox had ran from Troopers and was being arrested.
The pistol that was collected from the backpack will be held in the Arkansas State Police evidence locker for safe keeping.
