Pursuit on speeding, reckless Chevy Malibu - PIT / TVI Maneuver by Arkansas State Police #chase #pit
Trooper's Narrative:
On December 7th, 2024, I, Trooper Chase Landry, was patrolling Interstate 30 east near the 142-mile marker. I observed a
Chevrolet Malibu traveling north at a high rate of speed. As I approached the vehicle, I noticed it started to travel at the speed
limit, likely due to a North Little Rock Patrol unit directly in front of it. Once the Chevrolet Malibu, displaying Arkansas license
plate AYM76P, passed the NLR unit, it began to increase speed again. The vehicle reached a speed of 80 MPH in a 60 MPH
zone.
I proceeded to follow the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop by activating my emergency lights on Interstate 40 at the 152 exit.
The vehicle exited the interstate and traveled east on W 33rd Street, displaying no signs of stopping. It quickly made a left turn
on Marion St, heading north.
At this point, I knew the vehicle was attempting to evade, based on the reasonable belief that there was ample room to stop
and its speed. The vehicle then made a left turn on W 34th St, now traveling west. I activated my emergency sirens and
advised Arkansas State Police Communications that I was in an active pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle continued traveling
south on Percy Machin Dr, disregarding other vehicles in the area.
When the vehicle reached W 24th Street and Railroad Ave, a successful Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) was conducted to
stop it. A felony takedown was executed without incident, and the driver, Bryan Chavez Castillo, was taken into custody, while
all passengers were released unharmed during the TVI.
Sergeant Stephen Briggs and Trooper First Class Keir Permenter arrived on the scene and awaited A-1 recovery to remove the
vehicle. I then transported Bryan Castillo to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for medical evaluation of injuries. Once medically
cleared, I transported him to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, where he was charged with the following:
- No driver’s license
- Reckless driving
- Speeding
- Felony fleeing
