Hey guys, how you doing? It's Henry at mowers and mowers. Good morning
So as you guys know, I got this thing. It is a yard man
8.5
26 clearing path dual stage snowblower. It's actually in pretty good shape
My friend Mike from Mike's lawn service
Babylon gave it to me his friend found it on the street
And he was gonna try to get it working while the engine does start and run the
The worm gear for the gearbox
for the auger and impellers
It's done
I'll show you why it's done
So here's the shaft the main shaft to the gearbox II
And as you can see in here if you can
It's rounded off and stripped
The worm gear on the inside is okay on this side, but over here. It's just stripped to almost nothing
So
The kid took it apart, I don't know why he took it apart, but he just took it apart
I guess just for the fact of taking it apart
Sometimes it's fun just to take things apart, you know, and then try to put it back together again
So I was gonna so he gave it to me
I was gonna put this eight horse 8.5 horsepower to come say snow king engine into the
my craftsman
826 also, right as
You know it from previous episode. I tried to swap a Toro 8 horsepower onto
that thing, but it was too wide and also the
Crankshaft was an inch
Whereas the pulley that I need for my setup to work on that craftsman was
3-4ths of an inch so the shaft wouldn't fit on here and also it had a
It was too wide for the holes on the snow blower
So I figure I'd take this and put it on right and there you go
Well, I just went and checked the crankshaft width of this one here. This is a 7 8
So even this one won't fit the pulley that I have designed for that so I can't put this engine on there either
Not to mention the fact that it looks just like the Toro one. I think it's still too wide, you know
That craftsman in the back is designed for a Briggs 8 horsepower horizontal
Not a Tecumseh. So anyway, I just thought about and thought about and I said well
if
The only thing wrong with this snow blower is the worm gear
It's only like 20 bucks for a new worm gear, you know what I mean? So maybe I'll go and buy a new worm gear
Repack that gearbox with grease and put this together and then I'll have another snow blower, right?
Problem is though when you're not the one who took it apart
It's a lot harder to put it together. You know what I mean? Since you weren't there for taking it apart
You don't know where what goes
Fortunately though, there's always the internet and I did find the part number to this thing and it has an entire diagram
Of all the parts that you need to put it together
I don't know if I have all the parts, but I want to make an attempt at putting it together
You know what? I mean at least make it into a snowblower looking thing instead of lugging pieces around my garage
You know what? I mean?
Because look the bucket is some rust in some places, but it's really it's really not bad, you know
And this is a decent snowblower, too
It actually has power steering and a light. So, you know that that's one of the options that
Was a pretty good option back then as you can see, this is a double pulley system, right?
It's got the camshaft pulley here that turns the drive disc and it's got the double belts here
I don't know why it's double belts actually
Because then it has three pulleys, you know
Could it have one belt for the auger and one belt for the impeller?
I'll have to try to figure that out today, you know, I mean, but it's split in half
I'm gonna try to put it back together put the wheels back on and
Check out the bucket situation on
On how I could put it together, you know
So that's what I'm gonna try to do today. It's too bad to go. It's kind of cold
so after further review
I'm missing a bunch of parts and
I don't think I could put it all back together again without these parts
These parts cost a pretty penny and I don't want to spend that kind of money on putting this thing together
And maybe I have all the parts. So
Here's the impeller the impeller shaft
This flange is kind of messed up right and everything is pretty much seized
While this gear drive here is okay, and that flange is alright
This one here is kind of busted right and then when you get to this part over here
The spline part here is damaged so once this was once the
Once this part was taken off the spline part
Once it was taken off. This was dropped on the floor
And so now you can't get it back on again because this part here is
Damaged. Okay, so that's that
Also over here on the bucket, right?
This bucket over here
While this does go here somewhere, right, there's a housing first and a big ball bearing
Which I don't have right
Once you get that on here one of the pulleys go right there
And then there's supposed to be some other kind of spacer that made it and this doesn't even reach see what I'm saying
These three things here. I'm missing another one like that on the other side probably
So it's missing a lot of parts especially the bucket area, you know, the pulleys are and how the impeller goes on there
It has these two things but these go inside
You know what? I mean to hold the two thingamajigs together, I think
Either way though that it's not gonna go on the spline so I can't do it, you know
These are all the bolts that came with it, I don't think that's enough bolts
This looks like it's too little, you know
so
I'm gonna sit here and ponder what I'm gonna do first. I don't think I'm gonna put it together though
Yeah, so I'm not gonna put it together. I was gonna try to
Force this on by
I'm not gonna put it together. I'm gonna try to
Yeah, so I'm not gonna put it together I was gonna try to
force this on by banging it onto the shaft to get it on but
Honestly, I'm still missing a lot of parts so I can't put it together
Right, you know and why damage this when I could actually sell it, you know
I mean, so I'm just gonna at least try to put it together somewhat, you know minus some parts
Just so I can at least roll it around easily because right now has no wheels on it and it's in a half
You know, so I'm just gonna put it together and just roll it around maybe use it for parts
Maybe I'll find another one that has some parts whatever. I don't know but in the meantime, I'm gonna put you on time-lapse
Well, I try to piece this whole thing together and make it look like a snowboard
All right. There we go
It didn't take too long
Getting the halves together was kind of a challenge because you have to match up six studs into six holes, you know
Just the right angle or whatever and it was so heavy at the pivot at this and that and the other thing
So I I put it on
with the
Auger shaft with the augers on and it went on really easily, you know
I
didn't put on the impeller the impeller shaft or any of the two auger pulleys that are in there and
Honestly, I don't know what I'm gonna do yet
I'm gonna go study the diagram a little bit more and see just how much it would cost
To get it, you know, maybe I can get it used or something like that. It might be worth it
You know I'm saying if this engine runs well that runs well, it's kind of worth it. You know, look at these wheels
the wheels are like
Flawless, you know, they're like perfect wheels. So it's just it would be just a shame to not you know
For this not to be a snowblower is what I'm trying to say. You know, let me check the oil. It's got
Plenty of oil in it. It's a good oil, too
Check the gas
It's got gas in it
It's got a fuel shut off and it's off
It's got a stator. So it powers the lights, right? What do you guys think? Should we try to start this? Let's try starting it
Sounds good. I'm missing the little plastic thing for the throttle
Sounds like it might be working. All right, well, it doesn't start
Just try pulling in a few times and we'll start
Smoke gas on it
So I don't see the spark but I can hear it. You know what? I mean? It goes click click click click, you know
So it definitely has spark so we're gonna put this back in I'm gonna shoot some go-go juice in there
Go-go juice in there. I think I got it in there
You know
The power steering works and believe it or not. This has heated grips
So this might actually be worth trying to fix, you know what I mean, I'm gonna study the I'm not gonna
I'm gonna study the parts diagram and see exactly what parts I need. I know for the most part. It's just the
impeller
assembly to the
Auger pulleys, that's what I'm missing missing that belt too. It obviously has the drive belt as you can see
Engine runs good. It's got electric
Heated grips with power steering and a light
8.5 horsepower
good wheels
Surface rust but not bad at all. There's no rot everything works with the exception of the impeller, you know
So I'm gonna do some research
Maybe I could find some of the parts to get it going and then maybe we'll have this snowboard
But like look you guys got to realize right here in New York Long Island, especially where I am, right?
We haven't had snow in the past couple of years, right?
We just had that one snowstorm that we had in the beginning of this
The end of 2020 and that was a good one
It was about you know, six eight inches whatever and it was enough to get your juices flowing
But there's no foreseeable snow in the future, you know, not at all
So it could just be another one of those years, you know
So snowblowers as a result are not worth a lot of money here at all something like this
You could probably see on Craigslist for 250
So would I spend?
100 bucks to make 150 bucks, you know, I mean, sometimes it may not be worth it
But I'll see if I can source the parts for it first. I need to find out what I'm missing, you know
Could be missing a lot, you know, and some of those diagrams. It's just crazy to read, you know, it's ridiculous
It's a thousand little things, you know, I might have to watch some videos
I'm sure some nut up there has a video on the auger impeller pulley
Assembly for this exact machine because these are very these are very popular
This is actually the little sister to the monster beef beast. I have same exact thing at least this actually has heated grips
Maybe I could put these heated grips on the monster
Anyway, that's it Oh
Putting this together. I thought was gonna be a pain in the ass, but honestly, it wasn't that bad
It's kind of fun
Anyway, thanks for joining me on today's
Putting a snowblower together from pieces
