This actor was in five masterpiece films back to back.
Hey everybody, I'm Adam Martinetti,
and we're not talking about me, are we?
There have been a lot of actors over the years,
but Collider's own Aled Owens points out
that none had the rate of success
with regards to commercial and critical success
as the actor named John Cazowie.
Originally a stage actor
before making his way to the big screen,
from 1972 to 1978, Cazowie starred in five films
back to back that were all Academy Awards nominees.
And not a lot of people can say that.
Beginning in 1972 with his role as Fredo Corleone
in The Godfather, that film was nominated
for 10 Academy Awards, winning three,
including Best Picture, and remains one
of the highest rated films of all times to this day.
In 1974, The Conversation and The Godfather Part II
were released, earning 14 Oscar nominations
between the two films, with the former winning
the Palm Door at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival.
In 1975, Dog Day Afternoon was released,
a film about a real life hostage crisis
that happened in 1972, starring Cazowie and Al Pacino,
earning Cazowie a Golden Globe nomination for his role,
and the film a nomination for Best Picture.
Cazowie's final film would be 1978's The Deer Hunter,
opposite Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken,
and the woman whom he described as the greatest actress
in the history of the world, Meryl Streep.
The film would be released after his death from lung cancer
and would go on to earn nine Academy Award nominations,
winning five of them, including Best Picture,
making his career the only one in all of cinema history
to have that rate of success.
