WEATHER ALERT: Heavy downpours and flash flooding Friday afternoon

This is a 22 news storm team weather alert. Good Friday morning everybody. Here's a look from our live camera network from all across western Massachusetts dealing with overcast skies. It has been mainly dry up and down the valley, but we are tracking some showers that are going to be working on. And let's take a look at our E. S. P. Live Doppler radar. And for the most part, these showers continue to weaken as they're moving through western Massachusetts. Kind of zoom on in. You can see a long route seven. Some showers is a little bit yellow showing up there in the Pittsfield area and out towards Lee. So there could be some moderate rain and some of these. But the trend has been for weakening as they're starting to move into the valley. But again, we'll be tracking those showers see out towards Albany. This was a little bit heavier and steadier just about a half hour or so. But again, you can continue to weaken a bit, but a little kind of bumped up a little bit there in Pittsfield, a bit more yellow. So again, there could be some moderate rain in there. More likely, though, for those showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, some of which could be on the strong and severe side. And that's why we do have that weather alert in place. Could be some heavy downpours could cause some flash flooding and also have to track the threat for some damaging winds as we head into this afternoon. Good news is is once the thunderstorms come to an end tonight, sunshine returns for the weekend. Looks nice both Saturday and Sunday. Partly sunny Saturday temperatures in the lower eighties. Sunday looks nice, mostly sunny, a little bit warmer with temperatures in the mid, perhaps even upper eighties. Outside right now, sixties and seventies and seventies Southwood Wilbraham at 66. We have 67 in Amherst, Warwick at 62 at 62 right now over in Adams. Here's a look at our clouds and radar and you can see there's this area of showers and there were even some thunderstorms. You can see kind of as a push to the east, it weakened quite a bit. Still some heavy rain to the south down towards New Jersey and up into northern New England. And then we get a bit of a break, but then we're gonna have to watch for some more showers and storms that will be developing as we head into this afternoon into this evening. I'm going to show that to you hour by hour with an updated sky cast. So there we are at seven a.m. Sky cast not showing too much, but again, there could be a passing mainly light shower this morning. There we are at nine a.m. So it could be a shower for the morning commute. Then a bit of a break, 10 o'clock, mostly cloudy. And then we start to see those showers and storms developing as we head into the afternoon. There we are at two o'clock. So some oranges and reds indicating some heavier downpours and thunder and lightning. And then it fills in as we head towards the evening hour. So five o'clock we're dealing with these showers and thunderstorms and heavy downpours. And that continues. There we are at seven o'clock. Could start to see a line that'll be forming through western Massachusetts. Again, some heavy downpours, damaging winds and lightning with this line that'll pass on through. And that continues to move out though. So that's some good news. It'll pass through and then by 11 o'clock midnight things are going to be improving. The rain will come to an end. Clouds will start to break up and then we'll see some sunshine as we head into tomorrow. Could be some clouds and fog in the morning and then we'll start to see more in the way of sunshine as we head through the day. Nice day tomorrow though. Sunshine and clouds temperatures in the lower 80s. Partly cloudy to mostly clear tomorrow night. And then we'll look for sunshine for Sunday with temperatures even warmer in the mid and upper 80s. So county cast looks like this for today. Hampton County mostly cloudy. There's showers and thunderstorms especially this afternoon. 80 in Springfield and Westfield 79 in Palmer. Hampshire County same thing. Mostly cloudy. Showers and storms. 80 North Hampton 79 in Amherst and in Belchertown. Franklin County mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. 78 in Orange. 79 in Greenfield and the Berkshires mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the mid and upper 70s. 75 Pittsfield 76 and Lee 77 in Great Barrington. Tonight those showers and storms come to an end. Some areas of patchy fog.
