Welcome to another episode of art explained. This time I'll be talking about the masterpiece Flaming June by Frederic Leighton.

Flaming June had turbulent times. From being one of the most iconic paintings of all time at one point, to being practically worthless, then again skyrocketing!

Lord Frederic Leighton was born in 1830. He was one of the most famous British artists of the nineteenth century. The recipient of many national and international awards and honors. He was well acquainted with members of the royal family and with most of the great artists, writers, and politicians of the late Victorian era.

Long story short, it is 1879, and Frederic Leighton, president of the Royal Academy at the time spotted Ada Alice when she was passing by the Academy. At that moment he knew that she would be his greatest masterpiece!
