Her quizzical smile and timeless allure have inspired academic study and artistic imitation for more than five centuries. But the story of Leonardo da Vinci's perplexing portrait is even richer than it looks. It really is priceless.

Nowadays it might be the world's best-known painting, but this hasn’t been the case for a very long time. Although we all know this painting, it still has a few secrets.
Actually, there's at least four different versions painted by Leonardo da Vinci and his students.

But the one we all know and love is at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The others can be found at the Prado Museum and in numerous private collections.
