Welcome to another episode of art explained. This time I'll be talking about the masterpiece Luncheon On The Grass by Edouard Manet.

Manet's paintings were controversial in their time, as they often depicted scenes of contemporary life, including cafes, cabarets, and scenes of urban leisure, which were considered the inappropriate subject matter for serious art. He also challenged traditional painting techniques, using loose brushwork and a limited palette of colors.
Some of Manet's most famous works include "Olympia," a controversial painting of a reclining nude woman, and "Luncheon on the Grass." Manet's influence on the development of modern art cannot be overstated, and his legacy continues to inspire artists and probably some creeps, until this day!

The Luncheon on the grass is one of the most popular paintings he made. In the center of this painting, he depicts two men and a woman having lunch somewhere in nature, resting on the grass. On the grass, we observe the clothing of a young woman, who chooses not to wear them.
