Ep. 348 — 1776: A Legacy Worth Celebrating | Fireside Chat

hi everybody Dennis Prager here with fireside chat number 348 348 and it's a July 4th special and even if you're not American you will find this very important I hope certainly that's my intention just want to remind you that the fireside chat is made possible by people joining Prager United that is your way of helping us maintain everything we do with Prager you for free plus you get a whole host of benefits it's all there at Prager united.com so please visit and make your decision then thank you very much so July 4th is the anniversary of the founding of the United States July 4th 1776 and I I could truly speak the the entire fireside chat about America its values its distinctiveness so I'll I'll be concise but I have a lot to say the United States became the freest country in the history of the world and this was almost universally acknowledged that this was the case it's why the French gave the United States of America The Statue of Liberty the famous Statue of Liberty the French did not keep it in France they didn't give it to another country they gave it to the United States of America for good reason this is the country that when people would often they would make a uh a Revolt or at least even just a demonstration on behalf of being free they would often wave the American flag like they did in Hong Kong before the Chinese government suppressed all freedom in one of the freest places in the world Hong Kong it's a tragedy what's happened to Hong Kong but they wave the American flag these were Chinese people I don't know if any of them knew English but it didn't matter that was the flag that represented Liberty on Earth there were two revolutions within a few years of of one another 1789 and 1776 1776 was the American and 1789 was the French but the French Revolution turned out to be unfree and uh very bloody the terrible killing of of dissidents and especially of of Catholic priests in France because it was a very anti- anti-religious movement the American Revolution and the French Revolution remain in a sense the Prototype of the battle in the world in America itself today the French Revolution is winning that is the irony my celebration of America is a celebration of American values and I I rarely mention my own books because I'm very self-conscious about sounding like I'm trying to sell you a book but in this case I I really would beg you anywhere in the world to read my book still the best hope the subtitle is why I don't even remember exactly but why the world needs American values to Prevail I I believe that that's essentially the subtitle it and and that is that is right American values and I'll tell you what they are and I didn't make them up they're they're on every American coin and have been from much of American History there are three things it's what I call the American Trinity and they are so let me remind you as I do each week that since we don't trust the big social Giants to keep us up we want uh everybody to watch the fireside chat at prageru.com that they can't take down but they can't take down the fireside chat indeed so at this moment please go to prageru.com to see the rest of this fireside chat and just start at prageru.com each week and then there'll be No Interruption thanks very much
