The Spy Who Loved Me | James Bond | Lotus Esprit
The Spy Who Loved Me is a film based on Ian Fleming's 1962 novel The Spy Who Loved Me. The plot concerns a reclusive character named Karl Stromberg - a megalomaniac - who plans to create a new civilization under the sea and simultaneously wants to destroy the world. In an effort to thwart the above plans, Bond was hunted down by Stromberg's powerful henchman, Jaws. However, Bond is not alone; he collaborates with a Soviet agent, Anya Amasova. In addition, Bond also has a unique weapon, which is the Lotus Esprit. The Lotus Esprit that Roger Moore drove in "The Spy Who Loved Me" was voted by British audiences as the most memorable car in cinema history.
A car that could turn into a submarine seemed like a dream only a boy could have, not mature men. Yet the vehicle that can run underwater appearing in The Spy Who Loved Me has become the car icon of James Bond under Roger Moore.
Fans can hardly forget the scene where the car slowly emerged from the sea while Moore rolled down the window and threw a fish out. In addition to being able to wade, the vehicle is equipped with many advanced weapons, such as water cannons that spray cement on pursuing vehicles.
The Spy Who Loved Me was well-received by critics. This is the third film starring Roger Moore as the fictional spy James Bond. The film was directed by Lewis Gilbert and produced by Eon Productions in 1977.
