Showjunping is an equestrian sport that tests both rider’s skill and horse’s power.
In this video, follow Imogen Murray’s masterclass as she demonstrates 4 easy showjumping exercises you can practice with your horse. These jumping exercises are perfect for fast-running horses or horses that need to be more responsive to your feet.

► MASTERCLASS SETUP
Fences are the focal point of the show dance course, from a single bar held between two columns to very elaborate designs that use water, flowers, shapes, and colors. What they all have in common is a meticulous design, specially chosen to test the skills of riders and horses.
You will come across several different fences when you start jumping. This is a good test of your accuracy because only ⅓ of the poles align. Then ride through the arena, past the columns. Do this in either trot or canter!
Walk over the poles once or twice, and then try trotting. Ask to trot at a steady pace. Keep your upper body high and focused on the horse's back while keeping your arms and wrists supple so you can follow the horse's head movement. Allow your horse to stretch its neck and lower its head if it wants to make the first approach or two when learning the exercise.
Performing the flat jump to jump requires tips and techniques. I incorporate stakes into my training, which helps both riders and horses in building good jumping habits. I also use nets and various jumping exercises in my workout, which are beneficial in preparing my horses to do their job as well as possible.
