A Legend - BMW 3.0CSL
The iconic BMW 3.0CSL Batmobile is accountable for our brand passion. The 3.0CSL has to be one of the automaker's finest public relations pieces, whether you were lucky enough to see one in person while they were competing in Group 5 races or merely knew about the classic model that initially donned BMW Motorsport's famed tricolor paint. After all, they always draw a crowd, and hearing a racing version roar past at full throttle is something you'll never forget.
But there's a lot to learn about the 3.0CSL, including how it was created, the origins of the blue, purple, and red M hues, its progression over time, and what distinguishes various forms. BMW Classic goes through a few aspects of the model in a new five-minute film, and whether you've done a nut-and-bolt repair on one of the chassis or have only ever enjoyed them through a screen, you could learn something new.
With just 1,265 units produced (1,000 were required to homologate the vehicle for Group 2), the 3.0CSL has become one of BMW's most valued cars. Although the 3.0CSL was available with a "city package" that removed the model-specific alloy panels, thinner glass, and other weight-saving alterations, each example is unique and exceptional. They're so unique that, rather than employing an original chassis for circuit appearances and other press activities, BMW constructed a copy in 2015, which is shown in the video.
The BMW 3.0CSi and 3.0CSL will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021. Check out the movie below to see how crucial and transformative BMW's first large coupe was.
