The Story of Steam Engine
At the start of the twentieth century, the steam engine before you saw extensive use in agriculture and logging on the Camas Prairie.
To smooth out the deep wagon ruts on Main Street in the 1920s, the City of Grangeville utilized a steam engine like this with a roller in front instead of wheels.
In honour of his father, Albert J. Schwarz, David Schwarz gave the engine to the City of Grangeville.
Charlie Steele's threshing operation, about 1909, making its way from Dobe Flats (Tolo Lake) to the Winona Buttes. Dwight Morrow ran the steam engine, with the cook house for the laborers following.
