Hello guys and welcome to my new video.
Today I want to share with you everything that you need to know if you want to be an
au pair.
It's like a little bit nicer to say au pair than a nanny, because basically you are an
So here are my tips what you need to know before you decided to be one.
First, you need to decide do you want to go through the agency or you want to find a family
by yourself.
If you decide to find it by yourself, there are some few sites that approve you to find
it.
So if you are going through the agency and that's also a good thing because you're sure
that they will find you a good family and you have some guarantee, let's say again guarantee
that everything will pass right.
So well to be honest nobody can guarantee it will all be all right.
But through the agency they have some families that they already work with and they know
are they good or they are not good depends on the previous experience.
So today I decided to share with you some basic tips that you need to know.
So firstly you need to decide are you going through the agency or you're going to find
a family by yourself.
Second thing that you need to know it's really important that you see a family on a video
screen.
It doesn't matter if it's Skype, Zoom call or whatever platform you're going to use but
it's really important that you see that family before you arrive there.
Also it's really important that you speak up with kids and if you notice some sentences
not by parents but by kids like okay I like you, I want you in my family, we are going
to have a great time together and if they are talkative like they are sharing things
that they want to do with you then it should be fine but it doesn't need to be like that
at the end.
At least I was following all that steps and I had a bad experience so it happens.
Third thing that you need to know is where are you going to.
Of course you need to choose a country where do you want to be an au pair.
So you can pick up up to seven countries in my world, well they recommend seven so it's
easier to decide.
And you need to be aware if you are from Europe for example like I am, if you are going to
United States or you are going to Australia you need to get familiar with visa so be sure
that you get one before you go and before you arrange everything with your family.
Fourth thing is really important, well basically au pairs are paying the travel costs by themselves,
sometimes the family pay so you need to deal about it with the family.
Fifth thing that is really important to know is how many hours you are going to work.
Be strict with the family and decide with them okay I am going to work for example from
8 to 4 and the weekends are free and after 4 I am also in afternoon free to do things
on my own.
So that's very important because at the end happened to me that the family didn't respect
any of this and I was receiving the same amount of money like for the strict hours that I
was supposed to work.
So be sure that you arrange that with your family.
Also find facebook groups for au pairs in your town or in the country where you are
So there you can find also some usual and typical tips and good tips what you need to
be aware of.
Also maybe they can give you some advice about the families and if it's possible be sure
that you speak with a previous au pair of the family so like that you will be able to
ask some questions that are maybe not appropriate to ask the family.
And it's always not good or appropriate to ask for a money of your salary but hey that's
why you are there right?
For you that's actually a job.
So be sure that you arrange also amount of money that you are going to receive and that
you deal about the salary.
Also be aware what are your duties, do you need to clean the house, if yes that you are
going to be paid more not less or not the same.
That are also some basic things that you need to follow up.
I think that I covered all the basis and the most important things that you need to know
about being au pair.
If you have any other tip or if you have your own experience then share it with me in the
comments below.
