NEWBURGH – Major crimes reported in the City of Newburgh so far this year are down when compared to previous years, officials said.

Interim City Manager Jason Morris said the data shows a decline in those major crimes.

“The city’s crime reduction strategies continue to produce results. Preliminary Part One crime data through September 30 shows an 18 percent decrease compared to the same timeframe in 2025,” he said. “This includes a 23 percent decrease in violent crime and a 15 percent decrease in property crime.”

State Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office assist Newburgh Police when major crimes occur.
