TOWN OF WALLKILL – The so-called ‘Big Beautiful’ bill that Republicans in Washington passed last year, will have harsh impacts on New York State and its residents, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said.
Speaking in the Orange County Town of Wallkill on Wednesday, the Democratic comptroller said cuts from Washington will be challenging for the state to overcome.
“The cuts in healthcare that we’re just starting to feel the effects of, that certainly will hurt individuals, particularly those who will lose health insurance coverage, but also in terms of the financial bottom line for New York State. The cuts to the Medicaid program are significant. The impact on our medical facilities, our hospitals, again, are just starting to feel the effect of that,” he said.
DiNapoli said in recent years, the state has received more back from Washington than it has paid in taxpayer funds, but with the policies in place now, New York will once again become “a donor state.”
