BINGHAMTON – Democratic incumbent Representative Josh Riley has won reelection in New York’s 19th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger Peter Oberacker by 15 percentage points in the November 3rd general election. We asked him what he hopes to accomplish in his second term. One priority is that he’s subpoenaing utility companies to see where the money is going.

“We are going to hold them accountable, and I’m going to get my hands on all of their communications about their decision to send hundreds of millions of dollars out of our community to their corporate overlords in Spain.”
He’s focusing on the devastating cuts that directly affect rural medical care:
“I’ve talked to just way too many providers and parents and seniors who are struggling to get access to the care that they need,” he said.
Humbled by his re-election, he promises to work for the people in the district rather than worry about leadership in the House like Mike Johnson or possibly Hakeem Jeffries.
“I’m really trying to focus on the local issues and the kitchen table issues, and to be able to continue to do this work.”
Part of that work will be to make sure that no congressperson can trade stocks and therefore prevent profiteering from insider trading.
