CARMEL- A traffic stop on Route 52 in the heart of the Putnam County seat had led to the arrest of a Long Island man on felony drug charges and the confiscation of copious quantities of cocaine and heroin.

Carmel Police Tuesday reported the arrest of Owen Guo, 23, of Fresh Meadows in connection with the incident.

Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann said shortly after 10 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop of a Mercedes-Benz: “The officer had observed the vehicle cross over a double yellow line while traveling on Route 6, and a DMV check showed the vehicle’s inspection had expired,” said the chief.

The officer requested back-up and Officer Vinent DeSantola and his partner, K9 Pietro responded. The dog conducted a narcotics sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics.

Hoffmann said a search of the Mercedes found a scale with white powder residue in the center console. Inside the locked glove compartment, officers recovered a zippered pouch containing plastic bags holding 44.6 grams of crack cocaine, along with ten glassine envelopes of heroin.

Guo was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was arraigned on the charges and remanded to the Putnam Correctional Facility pending future court action.

The top charge carries a maximum 15-year state prison term if found guilty
