The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes missed the playoffs for the first time in his NFL career last season. He was injured for the final few games of the season and Kansas City finished with a 6-11 record last season. Mahomes is trying to get ready for the Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos after suffering a torn ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers last season.

During the 2025 NFL season, Mahomes completed 62.7% of his passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 422 yards on 64 carries and five touchdowns, along with averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Mahomes is already 30 years old. It will be interesting to see how he will be able to handle himself off the torn ACL injury.
NFL Defensive Coach Believes Kansas City Chiefs is Still a Tier 1 Quarterback

Mike Sando of the Athletic and other NFL analysts were ranking the tiers of quarterbacks as the 2026 NFL season approaches. For now, Mahomes appears to be the top dog at the quarterback position. One NFL defensive coach said,
“I still think he’s a 1, but this year will show.”
He has a chance to still be at the top of his position, but there is also a good chance that the Chiefs are going to miss the playoffs again for the second consecutive season. Mahomes is also in the same tier as players like Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams, and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.
In his career, he has been to five Super Bowls and has won three of them. With his age, he could be already showing wear and tear. Mahomes has a chance to prove his doubters wrong once again this season.
